Vladifan 680 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 I haven't seen anybody mention this possibility so I'm gonna throw it on here for possible discussion. I suggest that Bertuzzi still has a whole lot of talent but maybe Karma has come back to bite him in the butt, big time. Despite the fact that a lot of you think he wasn't punished enough (me too) for his hit on Moore, I think that hit is in his head and it's not going anywhere until he reconciles his actions somehow and moves on. Maybe he 'knows' in his heart and mind that he wasn't punished enough for his actions? Either way, I think that is the major thing affecting his play. OK, I want to think that's it. And maybe the Wings - if they haven't tried it already - might get him into counseling. And, NO. (Before the Eye-for-an-Eye gang shows up...) Not to absolve him of his actions but to reconcile with them, however he needs to do it.

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 I think that's it 100%, but solely because he's playing so passively because of it - he doesn't want to hurt anyone and everyone knows that when you play any sport passively, you are not as effective... Johnny Law 15 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Hahaha You want to know whats wrong with Bertuzzi it that's he's old and his best days are long gone. Bert had 3 decent years with the Canucks 5 years ago, Brett Hull he isn't. Guarantee you he isn't thinking he wasn't punished enough but 19 million is certainly enough to ease up on your checks. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 There may be some truth in this, but there's a difference between laying bodychecks on people and doing what Bertuzzi did to Moore. I think the fact that he's been injured in recent years has more to do with his passive physical presence, rather than the Moore incident.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted November 25, 2009 what? bert hasn't played the same since the moore hit? this hasn't been said a million times already. thanks for clearing it up
Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 Y'know how sometimes, when the Wings play too fancy and lose, and the coach yells at them to stop being so pretty? I think that's the idea Bertuzzi has when he's on the ice. Gotta play all "dangle dangle". What strikes me is that whenever the camera follows Bert to the bench, I see a very warm, encouraging Mike Babcock. I think it may well be about injuries. Drew Miller scores a beautiful power-forward-esque goal before Bertuzzi does? Who would have guessed? I think he's still got talent, but he needs to think of shooting first so he can beat the shot-blockers. Let Pasha be Pasha.

Being the player he once was and being effective are two different things. The man still has talent, he just isn't using it.

Icesurfer 75 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) Maybe because of what happened he is afraid to play aggressive and get in someone's face..... because peeps might start pointing fingers and say.... "See I told you so". Maybe that writer in Colorado went to a witch doctor and put a curse on him......LOL.... he certainly was relentless in hounding Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi is his own worst enemy and Detroit should have never signed him. Holland should have listened to the peeps on this forum and signed Travis Moen..... but NNNNOOOO...... Holland was counting goals and Bertuzzi had a higher number. Edited November 25, 2009 by Icesurfer

I don't see that at all. I see him skating well and getting to where he needs to, but afraid to attack the boards and doesn't have the hands to make the plays he needs to. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 25, 2009 No confidence. He has negative amounts of confidence and so he's scared to shoot, wont drive the net. He's been good defensively, and more physical lately, but I dont think we'll ever see the man Todd Bertuzzi anymore, only the scared boy who replaced him. It sucks, Bertuzzi was one of my favorites, and I've wanted him to have sucess, but he isnt doing the little things to be sucessful, and if it doesnt change, he wont either.
