Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted December 3, 2009 ... FTW!!!!!! Not even close to Team Canada. Actually, I think a Team Canada "B" would be just as good or better. Only Russia has a chance to beat Canada at Olympics.

Ovechkin-Malkin-Semin Kovalchuk-Datsyuk-Frolov Artyukhin-Fedorov-Kovalev Morozov-Brylin-Zherdev Filatov/Radulov Gonchar-Volchenkov Tyutin-Grebeshkov Vishnevski-Kalinin Kulikov Nabokov Bryzgalov Khabibulin I know most have Kovalchuk on the first line but I'd rather both Ovechkin and Kovalchuk come from the left side with their awesome shots. I'm not even sure if Kovalev wants to play.

And yeah, this is the only team that can challenge Canada and have a real chance to win.

Bykov has these certain role players that he trusts and that are at top of their game in international tournaments. Zinoviev, Nikulin, Schastlivy, Zaripov, Morozov (who you already listed)... newfy 695 Report post Posted December 3, 2009 Lacrosse. Lacrosse is the sport people play in Canada to stay in shape for hockey. Its not even comparable to the love Canadians have for hockey.

adubs 8 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 I'll go with Canada when it comes down to how popular it is. There are over 100 outdoor rinks in Calgary come wintertime. I can't remember the source but I remember seeing that Canada contributes a dispoportionate amount of the league's revenue.
Jake Ryan 1 Report post Posted December 4, 2009 If Canada had close to half the teams in the NHL, then I'd give it to Canada as well. But the fact that hockey would starve if the USA didn't back it makes the USA my number 1 choice.
Tane 17 Report post Posted December 5, 2009 Imagine Hockey without the US. I actually think it would THRIVE. Gretzky Division Calgary Edmonton Vancouver Victoria Saskatoon Winnipeg Howe Division Toronto Montreal Quebec City Hamilton Halifax London Tretiak Division 3 Teams From Russia (I don't know enough Top cities to make good suggestions) 2 Czech (Prague) 1 Slovak Salming Division 2 Sweden 2 Finland 1 Swiss 1 Germany Players Are Drafted/Signed/Traded Back and Forth, the Only time teams will play against each other Would be in the Stanley Cup Finals. This actually's got me thinking about Fantasy Hockey....... What If I set up 2 leagues of 12, each with the Two Divisions listed above. Would there be enough interest to get a couple leagues going? Maybe in order to keep players Separate, The Euro Teams can only play with Euro Players, and the Canadian Teams can only play with North American players. I would need at least 12 guys (control 1 team in each league) Or If people want to, I could take up to 24 different Managers. We'd Have to wait until Midseason and play a Half Season. The Way the Championship would have to work, is, Since they're 2 Separate Leagues, There would be a final Four weekend. Out Of the Four teams that make it to the championship The Team with the Highest Score, wins the Stanley Cup. The Team that wins the Other League Gets the Gold Medal, Then the next highest Score gets Silver, last place Gets Bronze. Start Full Rosters of 4 C, 4 LW, 4 RW, 6D, 1G with Max Bench spots. Head to Head, Set Rosters Once Per week (Will Simulate playing with a Real Roster in a Real Game) Dynasty League. Your Team is your team. I'd assign "Keeper Costs" to each Player (Reflecting their Actual Salaries) I'll either Commish both leagues, Or if someone else wants to, They Can commish the Other League. I'm liking the Idea, Who's in?

Eh, there's too many reasons why this is retarded. Another is Ottawa being cut for some reason in favour of Halifax, London, Hamilton and Quebec. I dunno, seems silly to go on dignifying this... newfy 695 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 Funny how the NHL talks about expanding in Europe before they do in Canada. Its funny how your thread was just awful and everyone just shot down your idea so now youre making stupid comments like this just because youre bitter. You were told that basically everyone knows Canada is the hockey country, so accept defeat and stop saying things that are making you seem even stupider. No USA, No NHL. No NHL, no hockey. It's the transitive property. Without Canada, the USA still has the NHL and hockey still is popular. Without the USA, hockey drifts off into the Lacrosse category of sports.
joshy207 156 Report post Posted December 7, 2009 Just because something isn't popular in the US doesn't mean it can't still be huge. Look at soccer. A fringe sport in the US, the biggest game in most countries across the world. Your argument gets worse and worse every time you post... let it go, you're not going to convince ANYONE. No USA, no NHL... no NHL, no hockey? What. The. Fcuk. are you talking about.

If Canada closed its doors to hockey, it would still go on in the USA and be watched. The NHL would do fine without the Canadian teams. Hockey is important to Canada, but Canada isn't as important to hockey as the USA is.
