Louisville 112 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Can someone explain to me why Laraque never got a game misconduct on Kronwall? The inconsistency in this league is amazing, the league feels it's serious enough to give him 5 games but the ref didn't think it was bad enough to kick him out. I just don't get it. Mors 201 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 My gut tells me that he dove on the play as well. He knew he did something stupid, so he layed on the ice, possibly a "how could I have intended the knee on knee hit, it hurt me too!" move. I hope that isn't the case, but I suspect it is. I don't respect cheapshot artists. I respect divers even less. I agree completely, I suspect he embellished the injury to try and cover up the fact that he knew what he did was wrong. He deserves to be suspended.

Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 I'm not entirely surprised that they didn't suspend him, but it still seems odd considering how over the past few years the NHL has been marketing Ovechkin to be the villain to Crosby the good boy. Subsequent video review by the league. Sometimes things happen that the refs don't catch. You'll sometimes see suspensions on non-penalties. Let's see if Ovechkin gets away with nothing even though the ref thought it deserved 5 and a game misconduct, let's see the league justify no suspension because he didn't injure the player and because he already essentially missed a game with the misconduct. I don't think there has been a conclusion yet on whether he'll be suspended or not, but we'll see. Regarding marketing, I don't see how he's been marketed as a villian and just on marketing, I see more of him these days in headlines than Crosby.

I didn't necessarily mean a villain like Pronger or Avery. I meant Crosby's villain or enemy. Last year it seemed like all I saw on tv and the internet were stories about how Ovechkin makes fun of Crosby, kind of like a bully. And all the commotion about his goal celebrations and how mean he is and stuff like that. They just kind of make him seem like the mean popular boy in high school. When he plowed into Dustin Brown (who had nothing to do with the play), he fell down grabbing his ear like someone had bitten it off. Honestly on paper the guy is a borderline dirty player, he whines after practically any penalty called against him, and he's taken a few dives. But I somehow can let almost all of that slide because he's such an amazing player to watch and has such passion for the game.

Carman 387 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Wow they actually suspending a superstar. Impressive. I can live with 2 games, should send him a good message and will let him get back on the ice quickly enough.
