Guest ZetterbergFourty Report post Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) I just don't see it as a place where it could happen without a huge investment. That pretty well shuts the door on that one then. They're not gonna shell out for one game. It would be nice though. I'm figuring the only two places that are really feasable would be Olympic Stadium, or to have another one at Commonwealth. I'm not even sure what they use Olympic Stadium for right now. Hey, has Bettman thought this through with holding one in Canada? Edit: whats going on with BC Place Stadium ? Hey, has Bettman thought this through with holding one in Canada? Edit: whats going on with BC Place Stadium ? BC Place has a roof, though they're modifying it to make it retractable for when the Whitecaps enter the MLS in 2011 (I think). McMahon Stadium in Calgary could work too. It's a bit on the small side but since the ends are open I would think installing temporary seating would be a possibility. Olympic Stadium is (occasionally) used for the Montreal Allouettes - the Eastern Final game was hosted there this year. I'm really thinking now that with what's available, Olympic Stadium is probably where they would hold it because they had one at Commonwealth already. Hopefully sometime soon they can shed somemore light on it for us.

hak 21 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 the amount of ***** and whine for this is beyond ridiculous. we're talking about ONE more winter classic in CANADA a year for a total of 2 each year. One in USA and one in CANADA. WHATS THE HUGE DEAL? Why can't you try to think of all the positive that comes out of this? imagine how much all the canadians will appreciate this. After all , there is no country that loves hockey as much as CAN. I love the winter classic and when I heard this news, I felt like "of course canada should have one great for them". Then to come to LGW and read all this hate is a bit mind boggling. I do understand that it is a rare and special event, but PLEASE it's ONE game in the USA and ONE game in Canada. A year. Can't believe you guys

Can't believe you guys The problem with this is there are only six Canadian teams and 24 American teams. This means that every Canadian team would play in a Winter Classic every three years, so it could kind of get old to see these teams over and over again while we have to wait for the American teams to all rotate. We are one league. Why not have Canada and the United States participate in the annual Winter Classic?

It's still one year and 81 - 100+ games in between. Also, who to say they only use canadian teams in CAN. The excitement and appreciation for the winter classic overshadows everything else
evilmrt 636 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Agreed. No need for two games. One a year makes it special. Also agree that Detroit-Chicago at Wrigley won't be matched. Detroit vs. Toronto at Michigan Stadium wouldn't be better?
Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 18, 2009 (edited) Canada doesn't have any outdoor stadiums. One is enough. Calgary = great market Edmonton = good market, known rival, and has a 60,000 seat stadium And that's not even counting the fact Toronto and Montreal could play anywhere and people would pay top dollar out of almost a feeling of religious obligation to both teams. Two is fine. It helps the game, it's twice a year and there's nothing wrong with it. Any more than that and we may start to tread into gimmick territory. Datsasuk 2 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 Ok, the winter classic is great because there is nothing like it and its something that can be looked forward to by all hockey fans. But once you start overdoing it, its not as special so lets just not do that. thanks
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I got an idea! Regina, and get the Saskatoon Coyotes to play the Colorado Nordiques. You could put 30k at Taylor Field for a one-off game.
