Detroit should be able to win with 3 goals on the board.

Howard did not play well tonight, and it cost Detroit a point. Bertuzzi and Datsyuk were amazing tonight. Homer and Helm did very very well as well. Defense was awful (Rafalski shooting at Morrow in those final seconds was inexcusable).

All in all, would have been a W if a couple specific players had picked up the slack. Also would have been a different game if Ott's charge was called and kept that play from leading up to a goal.

I don't like this loss only because we really should've won this game. We slipped on defense and Howard didn't have his best game. We weren't hurting as badly as one would think without Z though.

I'm not aiming to put fault on Howard here but he didn't play well. I make a point of it though mostly because as I keep saying, I am not particularly a big fan of the way the way the rotation has been going. I think we would've won this game no matter what goalie was in net if Osgood was getting more starts in general. I just think this is a bit much for a rookie still, more mentally than anything. Howard can play, but I think they need to work him up to a starters load as opposed to just dropping it on him lately. Again, I truly think he would've looked better today if he had a few less starts, and for that, I don't blame him. Like I said, I'm not a fan of the rotation.

Why are you afraid to mention names?

Refs f***ed us over after the time went off the clock after the whistle and they didn't put it back up. ******* ridiculous the officiating today. Obvious slashes let go and the time not being put back on the clock. Sucks that the D wasn't there. Gave up 2 points to the Stars, which we don't need.

Red Wings: 3

Stars: 4

Final

I noticed a trend that the officiating is always s*** when we play Dallas. And I don't know why.

Howard did not have his best game. He got some bad breaks around the net. As an Osgood slappy, you should be all to familiar with those.

no when this guy http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/?i...;team=Dal#stats scores 2 goals means your goaltending s*** the bed tonight. end of story.

Eh. s*** the bed might be an overstatement. I think it's fair to say we lost this game because Howard didn't give us a chance to win tonight. But again, I don't think it's Howard's fault so much. I just think they've putting too much on him too soon especially when he still has some issues (which were glaringly obvious at numerous points tonight) to work through. It's great that he's been getting the bounces and he's been really solid for us, but I think we would've seen Howard play better if he hadn't been carrying a starters load lately.

Good one.

Too bad I'm at least rational about it unlike yourself.

Howard was out of position tonight, way too aggressive to the shooter, and did not play the last goal well at all. He at least kept his team in it by stopping the Ribeiro breakaway, but at the same time he did not put Detroit in a good spot to win it. The times he let in each of those goals was backbreaking for Detroit.

Rookie.

Enough with the "rookie" comment. Howard is a rookie and is playing like a competent veteran backup goaltender (save tonight). Leino has looked soft and worthless all season, up to the point where it looks like he isn't even trying on multiple plays.

He has had a horrible season and "rookie" doesn't make up for that. He has been that bad.

Doc's absolutely not a hater but to call him a slappy is absurd. He's by far one of the more level-minded posters here in general. I can always count on him to not rail on Osgood by default, but if Osgood plays a crap game, I can also count on him to readily call it out.

This is in stark contrast to your posting style, as I can always count on you to be ripping on Osgood no matter what is going on.

rookie or not helm abs and even newbury look to be giving it more effort then he is

I won't argue with you on that, but I will certainly be patient with him. If he doesn't get it going next year, then he can be traded or walk at the end of the season. But this year, patience is key.

I was at the game and the thing that by far stood out was that Leino has got a lot of quit in him. Other than that it was a good game and we just had a couple of poor bounces in the second that lost us the game.

Again, I'm not arguing that it's been rough. No doubt about it. But right now with all the injuries, we're stuck. Furthermore, just as I am not thrilled with the pressure that's been put on Howard, I think Leino more than anyone heading into the start of this season was being set up to fail by fans and management. Holland got screwed in the off-season in many ways and instantly we start looking to guys like Leino to be a big help because he had the flashes last year. I just don't think that's good for a guys head going into a rookie season, and then you add all the injuries and other new guys and it mucks it up even more. I'm not defending his play thus far. He hasn't played well. No argument there.

But the reality is, the guy has got skill, and maybe his heart's not in it now, but if he finds a spark at some point which is still quite possible, it could really get him going. Again, I get the frustration and it's not like I'm happy about it, but I still think the guy has a lot of upside if we can be patient with him.

It's amazing what just once goal can do at the right time. Just look at Bertuzzi...

And I'm not talking about the first 2-goal game.

I'm talking about the weird goal he had a week or two before that. You could tell the guy was still down on himself and frustrated, but you could see a glimmer of hope emerging with some added urgency too.

And what do you know, a little later he's on fire.

Patience.

which is why he's not a starter and may never be in the NHL. good backup but not a starter. Inconsistency.

I've said it all the time that leino was a worthless signing, a really horrific overly soft euro that brings absolutely Nothing. If he ain't benched when the team is healthy something is very very wrong.
