timothy1997 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 TMZ announced they will have their own divison based on the sporting field. Sad because this will surely take away what little privacy athletes have left. With Tiger Woods, Pacman Jones, and Michael Vick...its no surprise that there are stories there. There is interest there. What do you think about this? Is this going to change the sport at all? I personally think the NHL needs a villian. Something like what is happening to Tiger Woods or Michael Vick wouldnt be the worst thing to happen to the sport. Yeah there is Sean Avery but that needs to be taken to another level. Sean Avery is about the closest thing to a "villian" as the NHL has at this point, although his off-ice antics are sound-byte worthy, they are not on the level that TMZ would be able to sell to their viewership. Now, the wife-swapping that it supposedly going on in the Flyers locker room, that may make for a better story.
HOCKEY MATTERS 167 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 Even though TMZ is entertining isnb a twisted, sad way, they only deliver what people want to watch. I am disappointed at how this country revels in muck, dirt and an opportunity to photograph folks in compromising situations. There is a comedic factor, but it seems to get vicious sometimes. And it's hard not to get drawn in and laugh at other peoples' misfortunes. I watch TMZ occasionally.....then I feel kinda dirty. Then I watch it again. geez. I hope TMZ stays away from sports. Stick with the Hollywood crowd, I say.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) God I hope not. TMZ is the most shameless, depraved outlet of all time. I can only hope that they totally miss their target audience and this endeavor fails miserably. Luckily, I don't see hockey making the headlines on TMZ too often. Barrie 900 Report post Posted December 22, 2009 I think we already know what goes on off the ice/field without hearing every detail. I personally don't want to know anymore. I hope the TMZ sports crashes and burns! When this topic comes up, I always think of the 1996-2004 Red Wings team. I hold guys like Yzerman, Shanahan, Lidstrom, Draper, Maltby, Holmstrom, Chelios, Osgood, McCarty, Lapointe, Fedorov, etc. with so much respect for what they've did/done on the ice, that I don't want to know anything questionable they did off. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 TMZ, Perez, all the gossip bulls*** for that matter ought to be outlawed. Free speech and freedom of the press shouldn't have to account for the scum that keeps the the gossip industry afloat. It's just pathetic, but still more pathetic that so many people in society obsess over it. And as much as the media loves to talk about health care and wars, I think the biggest issue that will define the 2010's is privacy. Facebook, iPhones, GPS, etc. etc. etc...the number of ways our privacy can be compromised these days is just unreal. Most people have no idea how expansive the systems are already. It's going to get interesting...

Why, so the NHL can degrade itself, so the heathen masses will be more interested in it? No thanks, I like my Hockey heroes out of jail, and on the ice. It's going to get interesting... I agree on the whole privacy thing being a big issue but its nothing new. With the new improvements in technology, the world is getting smaller. TMZ is here to stay where you want it or not. And as long as their is fascination for a life outside your own, it will continue to expand. Oh and the NHL needs to promote their game...whether that is something positive for the sport or not.

Guest zackmorris Report post Posted December 24, 2009 TMZ is ******* pathetic and the little paparazzi pieces of s*** they emply should be thrown off of a building with a rope attached to their balls. I have no sympathy for a group of scums***s who sit in a room, smugly laughing at potentially screwing up the lives of other people.
