We Should Have Gooned it Up These Last Two Games

Babcock lost some of my respect for these last two games.

Divisional games against rivals and the games were blowouts. Yet he didn't even try to goon it up or send them a message late in these games.

And enough of this "we're a classy organization" s***. Sending rivals a message is a part of hockey. There's nothing dirty or improper or unclassy about it. They did the same stuff to us last year in the playoffs.

This would have been a good way to bring this team together and inject some life into them. Instead, May and Janik were benched for the 3rd and the team looked lifeless as it skated off the ice.

Agreed. What the hell are we calling up soft Euro's when we have good gritty players in GR? If we aren't going to score goals anyways we might as well make it entertaining. Bending over and letting the Hawks dominate us is embarrassing.

It's not about soft euros

Last game, we had May, Janik and Newbury in the lineup. That's as tough as we've been in years, yet we still went out there and looked lifeless.

Last I checked, hockey is a physical sport and fighting and sending messages (as long as it isn't too cheap) is allowed.

We let this Chicago team skate around us, and didn't make them pay any physical price for it afterwards.

The Wings dont know how to lose, it wasnt so bad when they were a dynasty, but run of the mill teams know that: In a blowout, your goons always play. Do fans seriously not remember games against St Louis where we'd be up by 5 goals and Winchester, Dj King and friggin Cam Janssen would be on the powerplay against us?? Like, we just skated around and accepted our fate tonight, when your bad, play with heart and fire, dont just friggin accept this, especially when we've been on top for so long.

agreed, I'm not saying they need to go cheap shot every player on the ice. But how about a ******* hit at the very least, this team for a bunch of call ups should be playing balls out to prove something. Instead they play like a bunch of euro cowards.

Agreed, it's just I don't get the Ritola call up right now. Newbury was doing fine.

That is exactly what I'm talking about. They won't f***ining hit! They rub. That's bulls***, it's not even hockey.

Well, that didn't take long.

I think if you flip over to Versus they have MMA or something on there.

Thanks for reading the thread title, instead of anything that was said in it.

Figure skating is on the other chann.....oh wait we all just saw a figure skating game. Nevermind.

BTW, nobody has Versus anymore.

How would that have helped the Wings make the playoffs?

I think you're losing sight of the real goals here. But then again you rag on Leino every game instead of the dozen players above him on the depth chart, so I suppose I should expect you to have your priorities confused.

Yeah. What did we have to lose in the end. I say pass on the injuries to the Hawks. I would like to see them play without Barker, Kane, Toews, Hossa, Seabrook, Byfuglin, Versteeg etc.

It's not about injuring players (that's more of a dream than reality), but it is about telling the Hawks that we won't go away quietly and that we'll be ready for them when we're a healthier team.

A scrum can be a good way to bring a team together. Remember Slapshot?

i totally agree in this context. its the BLACKHAWKS. the one team that can really knock you off in the division this year. the wings have looked like all around zombies these last two games. you need to send a message and do something, anything. and the wings did the total opposite. they pretty much just layed down for them.

Down 2-0 with 5 minutes to go, in a game where we've thrown 30 shots on net and got nothing. Games over, sending a few dirty hits and messages couldnt hurt. GMR isnt talking Charlestown Chiefs here all game long, 5 minutes, that's it. Every team in the Western conference has done it to us once or twice since the lockout ended, bout time we do just a little back.

Leino isn't the only guy I rag on. Seriously, why would you even post that obvious falsity.

How would it have hurt our playoff hopes? It'd wake this team up for one thing and they'd play with some heart and determination in the next game.

What did we tell the Hawks these last two games. That we're not only bad with this roster, but we won't even play physical with it and will avoid any confrontations. Just blow us out and skate away smiling. Let Buffligien or whatever his name is do whatever he wants out there.

In the past, I'd just complain that we don't have the personnel to play this way, but this time it's different. We had the right players but we just didn't utilize them properly.

Yeah I understand your point and I totally agree. The Wings need to learn to send a damn message. Are they a group of men or some little mice. But hey, I am just saying it would be great to see how the Hawks would be playing without nine regulars out of the lineup.

The Wings management wants to take a look at Ritola before his contract is up or some damn thing, it doesn't really matter because they lose nothing by dropping Newbury and gain nothing by adding Ritola. Neither are players that have any impact.

As for GMR, that's not really my bag but I like it when the team plays feisty, hits, clears the crease, that to me is tough hockey. They seemed to be rolling early on (even though they couldn't score) but fell off after the first period. I don't know why they lost their edge but they never really recovered.

Exactly.

We've been bullied around for years in this same scenario, and now we have the perfect chance to hit back and yet we do nothing about it.

We send May out there to have staged fights with Barch, but we don't send him out there in these situations.

Pretty sad.

I'd rather they pound them with non-dirty hits, but I see where you're coming from.

If they had 9 regulars out of the lineup, they'd try to kick our asses on every shift.
