chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted December 28, 2009 Leino has been fine, 700k player in his rookie season. You are to blame for your expectations not him. He'll be fine and you'll all eat crow when he becomes a solid NHL player. I'm with you. He hasn't yet discovered what it takes to play at the NHL level. He's obviously very talented. When he gets his s*** together, he's going to be great. Not everybody adjusts well to the NHL. For Christ's sake, we have him playing on the 2nd line with (until recently) Henrik frickin Zetterburg. That would be a bit of an adjustment for any rookie.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 “It’s not always easy to just win battles. I’m not a player who’s a fourth-liner and just works hard every day and only can concentrate on that. It’s not my best thing. I’m more like (a scorer)." I know what he means by that quote but I can't help feeling like he just lost any support he might have had from LGW. FinWing 26 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 It's like he's not admitting the problem. That means it won't be fixed either.
b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 “It’s not always easy to just win battles. I’m not a player who’s a fourth-liner and just works hard every day and only can concentrate on that. It’s not my best thing. I’m more like (a scorer)." I know what he means by that quote but I can't help feeling like he just lost any support he might have had from LGW. I was a big supporter of Leino to begin the season. I really thought he was going to be somebody or at least do what it takes to be. I understand that what Helm does every shift is not typical of all players, but he doesn't come off as a guy in a drought who is doing all he can to get out of it. In just so many words, he basically said: "I'm a scorer. Other people win individual battles and backcheck well. Not me, I'm a scorer. I'm here to score and can't be bothered to do what Helm does, just isn't my thing." Well Ville, you're not looking like a scorer and haven't since the first month of the year when Filppula was making your whole line look incredible. So if you're a scorer who is not scoring and can't be bothered to do the other things that make you a serviceable hockey player in the NHL, why do you expect to stay in the NHL? Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 If he was working hard and not scoring, I'd be ok with him. If he at least looked to be TRYING out there, I'd be ok with him. The guy is a bad skater and clearly hasn't worked on it. He's small and hasn't gained any real strength. He's not really a good goal scorer from what I've seen either, he's just... well... Lazy. I usually defend him, saying it's his rookie season and all that... but our other rookies, Howard, Helm and E, have all been better. Helm and Howard are fantastic so far, and E has had some troubles, but at least he looks to be battling, and trying. He makes mistakes, then makes up for them with a great play. Leino doesn't do any of that. All he's been doing is going through the motions, like this doesn't matter to him. After bitching that he was too good for the AHL, I thought he'd have the fire to compete with the other AHLers who are playing with us, but he's been the worst player on this team. I say we don't trade him, keep him til the end of his contract, and see... but so far, the Finnish Fail seems to be a perfect nickname for this lazy player
Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Ritola proved himself far more effective last night. If he can do it a few more times. youll be back to being a scorer in finland.

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Leino was much better in his call-up last year than Ritola's been now. Ritola skates harder and with more effort though, night in and night out... I'll take a guy that consistently skates his ass of, over a guy with a ton of natural talent and a bad attitude who takes nights off...

I'll take a guy that consistently skates his ass of, over a guy with a ton of natural talent and a bad attitude who takes nights off...Didn't take nights off last year. I'm just saying... don't get too excited with this Ritola either. Leino's problems are in his head. Big problems.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Leino's problems are in his head. Big problems. He needs like a girlfriend and a Rocky II moment or something. Woman says, "There's one thing I want you to do for me Tonight Show." Ville says, "What?" She says... "Win... Win!!!"

Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted December 30, 2009 don't know if anyone saw this or not Leino says goals will snap slump Prepare well, work hard and everything else will take care of itself. That's the message Red Wings coach Mike Babcock is trying to get across to forward Ville Leino. Leino, though, has a different approach: score, and everything else will take care of itself. Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 don't know if anyone saw this or not Leino says goals will snap slump he's turning into quite the quote machine. scoring will help you cure a slump. hmmm. that's like saying eating will help cure hunger. a profoundly idiotic statement. ManLuv4Clears 7 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 He must have a pretty mean shot to be able to score from the press box.

cjm502 165 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 (edited) Leino was much better in his call-up last year than Ritola's been now. But Ritola is better than Leino is right now That is all that matters. Ritola also has something that Leino has never had. A nice attitude. Edited December 30, 2009 by cjm502
LidstromIsASuperhero 29 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Man where did this guy get his bad attitude from? He put up with being in the minors for a year, had a good season there, earned his chance and now all of a sudden he isn't making the most of it. I feel like there is hope yet for Ville, but damn I'm losing hope.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 Wow, he's playing with zero effort and is actually complaining of the situation? Im starting to get anxious for this guy to head back to Finland. Seems like he just didn't mesh right with the NHL.

Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted December 30, 2009 "I'm not a player who is a fourth-liner and just works hard every day, only can concentrate on that," Leino said. "I'm not very good at that. It's not my best thing on the ice." you think? maybe his tone didn't translate to text well or he was taken out of context, if not the whole thing is pretty funny
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 ^The funny part is he's getting those 2nd and 3rd line minutes now and still not producing. esteef
