hardcoretom21 71 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Hey all! First off, absolutely great game!! This game had been announced a sell-out at least a week ago. And it was announced as such today again. However, it was very easy to see almost complete sections of empty seats at The Joe.. This was a Sunday afternoon game, not a weeknight game, against arguably the best team in the league... Why all the empty seats? It's obviously not due to the poor economic status that has plagued the state in recent years, because the tickets were ACTUALLY sold... I'm from Montreal, so could someone please enlighten me? It's been bothering me since last year
Guest Howard He Do It?! Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Not everyone can always make it to the game. The original start time was 3 pm but was changed to 12:30 pm because NBC picked up the game.

CenterIce 83 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 (edited) You have people who have season tickets, but don't go to every game. They probably are having a harder time selling their tickets. So, games they cannot attend their seats are empty. Corporations have sections that if they don't have a customer to entertain, their seats may be empty. Single game seats are hard to sell, because not everyone has the money to go to all the games they used to. Game time was changed. People may have something else going on. There are a lot of people busy on Sunday mornings. Edited January 18, 2010 by CenterIce

It's been bothering me since last year from experience of being at the sellout on new years eve, there are jsut those few splotches of seats that are in the camera view that are empty, the rest of the place is packed, just look at the actual attendance #s rather than what it looks like

Everytime I go to the Joe too, I've been to weeknight games, the arena is packed. I heard not to long ago the Wings are 5th in the league in attendance. evil204 4 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 I don't know how they determine if a game is sold out, because Ticketmaster still had tickets for the game (scattered) on Saturday.

Grim 5 Report post Posted January 18, 2010 Wings are currently 4th in Home AVG attendance... Espn attendance stats I don't think this is so terrible, especially considering the economic beatdown in the region and the dilapidated state of the Joe.

Jwo 7 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 Speaking of attendance. I can't find two tickets in upper on Ticketmaster for the game against L.A. I can find them on other sites but No way I will spend over $80 per ticket for upper bowl seats for a regular season game.

Espn attendance stats I don't think this is so terrible, especially considering the economic beatdown in the region and the dilapidated state of the Joe. Thats a great link.... Check the road attendance and how the Wings draw percentage wise of capacity: Highest in the league. Yet Bettman and his ass-clowns continually manage to f*** over Illitch. This is one of many reasons why this league is a joke.
CaptainCaveMan 4 Report post Posted January 19, 2010 The game was sold out, so that isn't true for this game. Just because someone has a ticket doesn't mean they can still afford to go. Once you figure in parking/food/gas/whatever it can add up. You can buy a ticket way in advance yet find yourself broke come game day.
Guest lilja4mvp Report post Posted January 19, 2010 you arent the brightest are you? A sold out game means the tickets WERE ALREADY SOLD! He is wondering why people weren't showing up to a game in which they had already paid for tickets. see this: Just because someone has a ticket doesn't mean they can still afford to go. Once you figure in parking/food/gas/whatever it can add up. You can buy a ticket way in advance yet find yourself broke come game day. which is just one reason for empty seats, amongst others (corporate purchases where the tickets are not used, reseller tickets that didn't sell, etc, etc, etc). many of the reasons have to do with the costs and the extra costs as mentioned above. doesn't really matter if a game is 'announced' a sellout or close to it if half the seats are empty. we've all been to 'sellout' games at the joe where the attendance is dismal.
