GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) I for one always knew that Leino was going to suck. I had advocated vehemently for an enforcer, and that he was going to be another soft euro who was afraid to battle for pucks. Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) Right now he's still on pace to close on Filppula's 15pt rookie campaign. Respectfully, no. Filppula had a 17 point rookie season in 72 games. Even at 82 games (which he won't get) he only gets 14 points given his current pace. I could go on and on but you're a smart guy Drake so I don't think I'll have to. But Filppula was a better rookie than Leino is now, the evidence is irrefutable and I can bring it out if you need me to. PS Leino will never have a better season than Filppula. beepbeep 3 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 Honestly, why the hell can't we count on our top two offensive players for offense? How can the Wings win games and get caught up in the standings when Zetterberg and Datsyuk are both on pace for fewer than 25 goals? Hell, when was the last time Z scored fewer than 20 goals!?!? That's even more devistating when Franzen's only played 3 games through 51. So our second best scoring threat is out until roughly the 62nd game and our #1 scorer is on pace for his worst NHL scoring total ever. Zetterberg is on pace for 21 goals. (20.65 if you're being picky) He had 22 as a rookie and 15 as a sophomore. This season is looking like it'll be his second worst scoring total ever and worst since before the lockout. Zetterberg is expected to provide 40+ goals a season. If he doesn't the team is in huge trouble. Yeah Datsyuk is on pace for 18 goals, but he's a 30 goal guy and he's expected to be the playmaker. Is he deserving of some heat? Hell yes and he's getting heat-- there's been a few Newspaper articles focused purely on that. The scary thing for me, though, has to be that Zetterberg is on pace for 21 goals in 74 games. Think about that. That's less than half of what he scored in the same number of games in 07-08. And it's not like he's hit his peak and is crashing down to earth. I know people love saying s*** like "30? that's so old" but that's retarded. Star players do not start sliding when they turn 30, and certainly not players that bloomed as late as Dats and Z did. They're both having off years but it's not like this is the beginning of the end for either of them. Nice, that comes out to about $352,000.00 per goal

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 That wasn't crazy when he made the statement. Leino was considered a top 3 Calder candidate coming into the season. His first 13 NHL games resulted in 5g and 4a. He was a ppg player in the preseason with only Datsyuk outscoring him over that period. Expectations for his rookie season were sky high. Of course it sounds crazy to say that now but I expected Leino to get around 40pts and certainly expected more than 15 goals. Right now he's still on pace to close on Filppula's 15pt rookie campaign. Edit: Waita go and partially retract your comment after I back ya up Gcom. Wow, I'm glad you're not a GM. FAIL!!!!!!

In your eyes, no way in hell will he ever have a better season than Flip. After all, even Dats can't muster that this year! For the rest of us, it's safe to say he never will if he doesn't work on his weaknesses and find some focus and drive. But if he does, he most certainly has the skill set to have a far better season offensively than Flip has ever had and likely ever will have. Ideally he'll work out those weaknesses over the summer and come out strong next year. Again, to be perfectly clear, I say that based entirely on his skill set and his willingness to put in the hard work to fix the areas that are holding him back right now. I'm making absolutely no guarantee's and to say I was even hopeful would be an overstatement. I'm patient, but that's about the extent of it.
beepbeep 3 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 Lidstrom is still the best shut-down guy in the league. His defense is still Lidstrom quality. Has his offense dipped? Yeah, of course he's frigging 40 years old. He's on pace for about 40 points this season. That's great for a 40 year old defenseman. Just because he's the Captain doesn't mean he can't age. I wish his offense would step up but hey, if you look at his stats he's been roughly a ppg player over the last month and a half. I figure he'll end up around 50pts after 82 games. The fact that he's a +18 on one of the bottom 5 scoring teams in the league is evidence enough as to how strong he's been defensively. ***** at Dats and Z, but Lids is playing well within what Holland likely expected from him in October. I would never question Lidstroms defensive play, my point was as Captain he needs to demand more from his team. Continually saying we are playing better is gettin OLD. RedFlag85 33 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 (edited) If you want to send a message to Pav and Hank, without changing the lineup, or doing something drastic: Take away their Assistant Captain status. Pin the A on someone like Helm, Cleary, or Stuart for awhile. They'll get the message loud and clear. 1. There are no Sacred Cows, and 2. Step it the f*** up. Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 Anything. If I didn't know any better, I could swear that they've been scratched for the last 30 games. They're not making much of an impact even at their own roles. Maltby has been doing well defensively (blocked one of Ovechkin's shots in the WSH game without a helmet) and Draper has been giving some good pressure in the offensive zone. I don't expect much out of them considering their age but they really shouldn't be getting the scorn, here. It's the upper level guys who are ******* up. lars1970 1 Report post Posted January 24, 2010 Holy s***. We won at the Joe? After being down 2-0 in the first? I will post more after I get back from the 7-11. I am going to buy a Lotto ticket. The stars must be aligned or something. On a side note: you guys need to quityerbitchin. You have 11 Cups. You are fans of one of the greatest franchises in sports history. Kings fans can only dream of even making the playoffs. I am not trying to be an ass, but it is only one game. We finally have some good, young players and we may be around for awhile. With the Wings depth, I would not be too worried if I were you.

Detroit has played like this (and given up the lead) in all of those games. This isn't simply a knee-jerk reaction. Detroit is playing terribly and letting the opposition take the game for themselves.

And then almost more bad luck at Hockeytown Cafe after the game. Guess it was pretty entertaining when there was a set of guys in the catwalk which a section had to be cleared out at the game.
