Wings_Fan_In_Exile 3 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I voted for Pronger. As some have mentioned Pronger actually is a dirty player who has shown on mulitple occasions the intent to injure. Crosby has been hyped since he was like 12- I think he's handled all that pressure decently well overall. Sure he's made some dumbass moves including diving and whining, but most of those are pretty commonplace in the NHL and just maginified since it's Crosby doing it. Plus I think that a lot of his reputation was earned his rookie year when he was still a teenager. Give him a little more time to mature and ignore the NHL marketing best you can and he isn't as annoying.. at least to me. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

He dove a few times in his first couple years, and complains when there actually IS something to complain about. Pronger on the other hand is a gapped tooth goober who has no respect for other players... He's been suspended for his dirty play more times than I can count. I just don't understand how Crosby can be more hated than Pronger. Sure, hate him all you want, It's your opinion... But more than Pronger, seriously? Bottom Line, Chelios was a dirty player when we aquired him, now look, we loved him. If Crysby was on our team flopping around like he does now, there would be no defending him... Show us where he went after Stevie's Knees. If you are referring to the St. Louis series, then you are wrong, he tried to run Steve into the boards and Steve ducked causing Pronger to injures hiself. Cindy has never blamed physics for, putting someone's head into the glass and laughed about it. Correct me if I am wrong, but Brian Burke was the the one who said it was physics that casued the injury, not Pronger. I make fun of Cindy, just because it is the in thing to do. I actually like the guy and feel he will grow into the role into which he has been thrust. I respect his talent. His mistakes are just that- mistakes. Bad hockey etiquette, Bettman-fed opinions- those are annoying. He's not a villain. I hate Pronger. Yeah, he's got talent. That's it. Like it or not, Crysby is the face of the NHL, but Ovechkin is the King. You don't see Alex flopping around like Cathy Lee does, and if we're talking if I had to choose which one of Crysby or Pronger I would rather have on the Wings, it would be Pronger hands down (and elbows up!) That shot is from the 2009 Stanley Cup Finals - Maltby tapped Crosby on the leg and Sid went down like (and stayed down) like someone shot him. It's got to be Cathy Lee Crysby! Ok, I'll admit, that pic reminds me of why Crosby can be so annoying. BUT, I've also seen Franzen and Ozzie, for instance, both flop just as bad to try and get a call. I HATE HATE HATE diving, but Crosby isn't alone in doing it unfortunately. On a side note- I really wish they'd review actual dives and hand out fines and even suspensions. I played soccer for 16 years but I can't watch the sport cuz of all the diving makes me want to puke. Anyway, while that pic stirs up a lil anger in me, pics like below qualify more for fan "hatred" in my eyes. Sure Crosby is a diver, but he doesn't threaten to end careers like one gnarly concussion could from Pronger. Umm... that's a pretty strange 'if'. But he wasn't the one to skip out... Crosby was. In fact, one year earlier the roles WERE reversed. Lidstrom didn't refuse to shake anyones hand. You're wit is quickly becoming one of my favorite things about this board. I had to vote Pronger, he has a history of seeking to and often causing severe bodily harm to opponents. Oddly enough, I have grown a grudging respect for Crosby over the past season and a half. I know he has earned his reputation as a diver and a whiner (and he hasn't completely outgrown it), but you can't deny that he has talent, and he has grown up under media hype and scrutiny, so it's natural for there to be resentment for that, but I doubt that very many true hockey fans would be upset to have him on their team, not saying they would take him over players x, y, or z, but hypothetically, if the Red Wings had been in a position to take him #1 overall, would you really have passed up that chance? You are entitled to your opinion as well. I would much rather have a team with Vlady and Pronger on the blueline than Crysby & Karyia up front.... but that is just me... I am sure if Vlady played for the Ave's we'd hate him as much as Pronger and if Crysby played for us, we'd love him.... Ahh the beauty of the sport!
