luvmnger 125 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Not so sure about this. We're a guaranteed sell out, even for struggling teams. We sell tons of merchandise. The league may prefer to portray as a villian, but they prefer us to be relevant. thats not exactly what i was referring to. if we are in the fray every year...their is one less team with fans going to playoff games and buying jerseys, therefore not generating a buzz in their market. a perfect world for the NHL would be different teams every year going to the playoffs. NBC doesn't want Canadian teams in the WC because they won't help in the ratings. Of course, the NHL will bow down to NBC and oblige.

13dangledangle 965 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Shootout goals SHOULD count as actual goals scored as far as individual stats go. I think it's really dumb that a team can make or break an entire season but it doesn't count towards there totals??? And I don't care about that little "2/10 20%" stat either....That goal won the game but it doesn't actully count?? Lick my balls that's dumb! The scoring in shootout should reflect on everybody record! final score , goalie stats, shooters...everywhere! my opinion...no shootout! 4-4 5min. 3-3 4min. 2-2 3 min. 1/2 court touch up 1-1 2 min. 1/2 court touch up then...and only then, shootout! adds about 10 minutes to a game overall time. strategic matchups, skill, endurance, excitement! the 2-way player shines! Uncle Danny 155 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Lately, I gotta go with officiating. Consistently inconsistent and getting increasingly consistent in that regard. The nets above the boards are also a pet peeve, although I suppose in the grand scheme I understand why they're there and why that's not a bad thing. Chris Pronger That the leadership award is named for Messier and not Yzerman. The TV deal. Although it doesn't impact me personally in any major way (I typically watch online or at the pub), it definitely hasn't done anything positive in terms of growing the fan base. The salary cap. There is no way that could possibly work. First of all 1-1 for two minutes would be incredibly tiring, and with only half the ice its a disadvantage to one team if you would even allow line changes. Also, who plays goalie? Bring in some neutral guy? But, maybe you were just joking. Edited January 25, 2010 by Dano33

Barrie 900 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Shootouts. And the salary cap. Again, agree 100%! Shootouts ruin the anticipation of the playoffs. It's such a let down to have a game decided on a marketing gimmick. The trade deadline hasn't been the same since the salary cap came in. It was a lot of fun to see what Detroit, Colorado, Dallas, Toronto, Philly, etc. were going to do at the deadline.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Fans who take it too seriously. In the grand scheme of things it's just a game. Replace "Fans" with "TSN" and/or "The Canadian Sports Media" and add, "and there are other sports out there" to the end. HockeyTownHouligan 57 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 NBC!!!! I hate NBC with a passion in fact I'm not watching the game against s***sburgh and detroit next week on stupid nbc I'll watch it on my computer so they don't get another rating for their stupid network. It needs to go back to abc where they had sweet announcers like bill clement. Ones that don't talk about how crappy detroit has become and how sweet pittsburgh is. I wish the NHL was more like the NFL in the grand scheme of things. Better replays, better reffing and overall better following. Hockey is just if not more exciting than football because they score just as much if you make the goals into 6 points and they can FIGHT!

Hiei 192 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 1. Gary Bettman 2. Instigator rule 3. Intent to blow the whistle 4. That a linesman 60 feet from the net calls a good goal, and the ref standing right on the net rules is no goal, Toronto says inconclusive, and they rule it a good goal. 5. Hell, let's get it down to 1 referree, and 5 guys who come out to break up fights. 6. Pierre McGuire and the NHL's love fest for Pissburgh. and yes, it is ONLY for Pissburgh. 7. The VS/NBC deal 8. Goalie Equipment rules aren't enforced. 9. Revenue sharing. Detroit's money goes to support Phoenix, Atlanta, et al. 10. The Trapezoid and goalie contact rules. If nothing else, keep the trapezoid as a goalie no-hit area, if he wanders into the corners or way out in front (Price, Hasek), then he is fair game. Things we need more of: 1. Kronwall Hits 2. GARY THORNE AND BILL CLEMENT 3. TV deal with ESPN or better.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Myself, I could do without all the forced Crysby enema's the leagues gives me. Every game, no matter who's playing, I hear Crysby this, Crysby that, Crysby, Crysby, Crysby. Maybe it's Cherry(although I rip on him, he is entertaining). Blind officials when it comes to certain players? Everybody disagrees with something. How about you? See my sig... Crosby being the media bastard stepchild is a distant second. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Things we need more of: 1. Kronwall Hits Speaking of that, the game misconduct of his perfectly clean hit. Also, the way players feel they must "seek revenge" for textbook hockey hits. That's one of the more ridiculous things in today's NHL.
w00p33 2 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 agree with most of what's been said here 1) officiating.. not the rules per se, but the inconsistency of calls, mainly weak calls. Stick comes parallel to the ice that's hooking, fine, refs are pretty good with that but how about the hooks when sticks are at a 30 degree angle? Sometimes called, sometimes not. 2a) TV : why are Canadian teams so spurned in the US? Outside the Habs/Bruins rivalry and divisionall games (NW and NE division games on FSN and MSG) why are no Canadian teams on tv? You practically HAVE to have Center Ice for the Battle of Alberta, etc. 2b) TV : is ESPN the perfect format? No, but neither is VS! Why is it impossible to suggest a multi-network deal? (Especially because NHL Network is not available on Charter, at least in Wisconsin, don't know about the rest of the nation) 3) Goalie Equipment.. I dislike Brodeur but he at least wears correct sized equpiment so I respect him, why can't others follow his lead? 4) Angry point for this post.. intent to call... why why why? God, can't refs admit they made a mistake? 5) TV again.. if we can't get ESPN back why can't VS get Thorne and Clemente as announcers, and if not why not just carry Canadian broadcasts we piggyback (in the playoffs) through the intermissions too? I'd much rather hear guys like Cherry (annoying but entertaining) and Hrudy doing intermissions than the VS guys...
