miller76 463 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 "It's a good thing they don't have it on the bench" - Babcock speaking about having wine on the bench.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Interesting comment about how the team played better with a depleted line-up. The defense gave up 10 goals in the two games that Kronwall has been back. Seems like they got complacent as Babcock suggested.
Broken 16 381 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 "We need to win tomorrow... Howard is in net" Glad to hear Babcock also confirm that Osgood is mentoring Howard properly. I couldn't imagine Osgood doing otherwise, but its nice to hear.

Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Interesting comment about how the team played better with a depleted line-up. It makes sense in a way. When the Wings were getting hit with the injuries they had to adapt to a more dump and chase style instead of puck-possession. When the injuries stopped occurring they were able to play that style and use it effectively (Howard's play at the time didn't hurt either). Now that more of the talent is coming back, they are trying to go BACK to a puck-possession game when they just spent a month re-working their entire system so now the Wings are having trouble adjusting. And by having trouble I mean screwing the pooch.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Not only the style, but the roles were becoming better filled and more balanced. Right now this team feels like a lot of individuals who may have good attitudes, but they don't each have the right tools to work well as a whole.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Isn't it a coaches job to deal with complacency? It is. Babcock has not done a great job motivating this team or preparing them to play every single night. We've seen that these past two weeks, as they've been getting more and more healthy. They take too many shifts off. It's still the players fault more than anybody else's, though. If a coach like Babcock can't light a fire under their asses then I don't know who could. Should we hire Mike Keenan?
