The Sharks have only lost 5 times in regulation at home this year. Two of those losses are to us. :D

Man I'm proud of our boys.

Meech: Great game. He clearly wants a full season job here. I'm not too exited yet, though, because Meech has done this to us before. He played very strong last year when he was competing with He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named for a spot then he fell off once he had the job in hand. He also did this during the big February AHL d-man call-up in Feb of 07. I'm reserving my confidence in him for when he does this over an extended period of time. That goal off Nabby was great. What a cool looking trick shot. :) Off the back of Nabby's leg and in. He also played pretty physical. Too bad he's so tiny.

Zetterberg: Only the one point tonight but he had a really strong game and shot the puck tons. Funny how guys who shoot a lot get goals, eh?

Howard: Holy frigging rebounds. If he had even average NHL rebound control his numbers would be amazing. His technique, speed, size and reflexes offset the rebounds, but damn man-- it's pretty stressful watching those pucks fly off his pads into the slot. Overall he had a great game. When the Wings were down 2-0 Howard kept them in the game.

Cleary: But Cleary's goal completely shifted the momentum for the Wings. Cleary fought every battle he could and it made a big difference.

Refs: Thanks guys! If I were a SJ fan I'd be pretty pissed at the refs.

Opps I forgot a few guys:

Holmstrom-- Great game by Holmer. It's like he never left.

Filppula-- Continues to be an offensive spark out there. His compete level is a huge factor. Val never gives up on pucks and is always dogging the puck carrier. I really hope he continues to grow offensively because his hunger to get that puck is great to watch.

Hell yes, this is the Red Wings team I'm used to! What a great game by the Wings (after the first few minutes). I feel like they're finally answering the challenge. Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Holmstrom were amazing tonight. Eaves, Draper and Helm, well, what else is new? Meech was great for once.

And the defense! They were right on top of San Jose. Cut down on the turnovers, and when San Jose came on strong, the defense ahd their sticks in the right places to deflect the great chances or block a pass.

The Wings played smart tonight, and that's how they win. If they can keep this up (for once, we've seen how big wins against San Jose are followed before) playoffs are a lock, baby.

I said it after the Penguins game, and I'm sayin' it again right here and now. The Wings are coming back. They are figuring it out. They are beginning to focus and they're beginning to remember what they have to do. And most of all they're remembering who they are and what they're capable of.

I'd like to just say one thing:

Helm is a beast.

He started the turnover that allowed Rafalski to set up Eaves perfectly for his goal, and he managed to negate that icing at the end of the game to give the Wings more breathing room instead of having to take a faceoff in their own zone. Sure there wasn't enough time to tie the game, but it still shows how much he cares about playing until the end of the game. Class act s*** right there, even if it doesn't go on the scoresheet.

 Babs can't resist a good Bush joke.

"Who's got two thumbs and just pawned half the furniture in the Lincoln bedroom to buy coke? This guy!"

It's creepy to see Babs so happy around that. I loved Zetterberg's expression when they were there. Pretty much, "I really don't want to be here." Who knows exactly why but he was in no mood to put on a presentation.

Seriously, though - I'm guessing most shark fans have felt that Nabakov has not played to expectations in the post season. Though one could say that about Thorton, Marleau, etc.

The team in itself doesn't know how to perform in the post-season. Whether you blame the goaltending, veteran presence, coaching, or what. The team in general can't win.
