egroen 384 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 What?? I'm sick of hearing it because I don't feel he's shown any potential. The way I see it, he's constantly out of position, pinches when he shouldn't, doesn't use his size and can't win 1-on-1 battles in the corners. The other night against the Ducks he had a great pass to Filppula, but that was the first really impressive thing I've seen him do in weeks. He's on the ice for more goals against than any Detroit player by a long shot. By the way, I think not being able to "read the game" might be his biggest weakness. Your statement make me think you believe I have a personal grudge against him, I just judge his game and I hope he gets it together if he can keep his job here in Detroit. The reason I suggest we trade him is because he's still widely believed to have that potential you speak of, hence a greater return, I personally don't see it and I've watch 99% of his NHL games very closely. Ericsson in last year's playoffs was better than anything I have seen from Lebda. Big, mobile defensemen with 100+ mph slapshots are worth keeping around for a while, while small, speedy puck-carrying defensemen are a dime a dozen. Fischer did not start rounding into form until his mid-twenties, and he had been playing defense most his life - unlike Ericsson.
b-random 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 Lebda is the stupidest Dman we have, just watch him for 5 shifts, he will pinch at the worst times, he will make horrible moves in the defensive zone, he will make s***ty passes and thats just par for the course for him, Im not even referring to he is having an off night. Ericsson is young, its his first year, people expected him to be Lids Jr this year, and I been saying that everyone would be let down the whole time, Dmen like Ericsson peak given time, not the second they are thrown into the fire. Ericsson's DOWNSIDE is still better than Lebda's UPSIDE PERIOD. I disagree, and with how much ice time Ericsson is getting, he's hurting the team way more than Lebda with his sub-par defense. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 Right now in order for Mule's return, $700,000 needs to be cleared. Ville Leino is making $800,000.

RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted February 5, 2010 Absolutely, Lebda has proved that he's an NHL player and he's better than people give him credit for. Ericsson is almost 26 and has been just plain terrible. I believe the organization just has a hardon for Ericsson because of his size and this team has a deficiency in that area. At least Lebda can get a shot on goal, 99% of Ericsson's shot are way WIDE. Lebda > Ericsson and he makes less, I'm stick of hearing about E's potential at this point. This conversation is so horrendous that a puppy just died. Granted, Ericsson may never be more than a 6th defenseman. Brett Lebda is the embodiment of terrible at his position. He's fast, but so is a runny nose. Brett Lebda is constantly out of position, thinks his offense is a real asset (it hurts us because of his dumbass moves), has no physical game, and (yes, this is a knock on Ericsson as well) is a turnover machine. There is a reason that everyone but you and Brett Lebda's mom hates Brett Lebda. It's not because you are seeing something there that we're not. It's because he's awful, but his cap hit is low, so he sticks around. I am sure that you will rebut this argument, and I am not ignoring you when I don't reply. It's just that I am so sorry for you, assuming that you must've had a head injury or are suffering from dementia, and I don't want to take away from your family's visitation time. All kidding aside.....Brett Lebda SUCKS.

Other than +/- (which everyone agress is the most overrated stat for defense) show me how Lebda is better? His TOI is comparable to Ericsson's, less points, lower shot %, I can point out gaffs in Lebda's play every game he plays in, whereas ericsson, though not perfect, is still more solid and has a lot more upside. A GAA for skaters. Up to date as of 1 or 2 games ago. Lidstrom - 1.91 Rafalski - 1.94 Kronwall - 2.01 Meech - 2.22 Lebda - 2.35 Stuart - 2.47 Ericsson - 3.

I guess it doesn't take into account who they are playing against.
