"Nuclear Eruption from Alexander Ovechkin"

i think it shoulda been a goal. puck was never covered. ovie hit gill who had the puck. puck bounces in.

I didn't actually watch the game, but this is one time where it seems like the "incidental contact" rule would come in. No goal, but no penalty. The goalie was prevented from making the save.

Shockingly, a goalie interference type of call that's not screwing the Wings in some way.

If a guy wants to stand in front of the net with the puck, he's fair game to get hit whether his goalie gets bumped or not. I don't see the problem with the goal. What was the ruling? The puck definitely wasn't covered and there was definitely no "intention" of blowing the whistle as evident by the ref who is pointing at the puck as it slides in...

Edit, having done a little research. This was their interpretation:

78.5 Disallowed Goals – Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee and the appropriate announcement made by the Public Address Announcer for the following reasons:

(v) When an attacking player has interfered with a goalkeeper in his goal crease.

So apparently Ovechkin interfered with Price (according to the refs). No penalty called on the play because a penalty can't be called once the play is dead. The refs didn't do it while the puck was alive, so it simply isn't done

Guest Howard He Do It?!

If Crosby were the one making this hit Pierre would have had a nuclear eruption in his pants.

I was initially annoyed at this play because i thought Ovie just came in full power and hit whoever he could, but after watching it a few times i see that Gill had posession, or atleast was attempting to play the puck, so to me this is a legit play. Coaches always tell you go hard to the net until the ref blows the whistle and thats exactly what Ovie did. However, i always hate when goalies are rundown like this, on purpose or on accident.

On a side note, i love how the ref standing right behind the net never seems to blow his whistle but just stands there poinint at the puck in the net. Players are still jabbing and playing even though the puck was in the net lol

also, i dont buy that Ovie is 230lbs, i think alot of players heights and weights get embelished quite a bit.

As much as i love seeing a scorer play the rock em sock em style that Ovie can play, i can only think that his career will be cut short due to injuries if he doesnt stop being so careless.

Considering he hasn't missed significant time yet I don't see why you would think that.

Yeah you are right, things never catch up with a young healthy guy that plays with wreckless abandonment on and off the ice.

Im not saying i want him to get injured or anything, im just saying ive seen alot of careers go down the crapper when guys with all this skill (which already marks him as a target by many teams) adds to the factors by playing hard. Do i want him to play like a ***** like crosby? no, i love his enthusiasm and passion. Ive just seen him make some bad decisions on and off the ice that worry me about his future. Thats all i was trying to say.

He is not injury prone and is unlikely to be the victim of injuries that Lindros had simply because he is the predator 9 out of 10 times.

I would consider him more of a Scott Stevens type, at least when it comes to likelihood of injury.

i thought ovie hit gill, gill fell on price pushing him into the net then ovie fell on gill not on price. meh i dont like that rule. such an awesome play should result in a goal

If the NHL can possibly do the wrong thing it will. Penalties, disallowed goals, rules - you name it.
