Yeah, Sweden never really gave Lidstrom enough credit EVER!! He has been the best Swedish player in the World forever now. It's pretty sad, isn't it??

I'm sorry, but I have to post this.

Sweden puts Foppa and Mats Sundin ahead of Lidstrom everytime!! Lidstrom is by far the better player, it's a shame.

Despite all the awards, Lidstrom has never ever been the most popular hockey player in Sweden. At least, among the general public. Though, he probably is that popular among coaches and young defenseman learning to play.

Nick is just one of those guys that will never ever get the credit he deserves because he has never sought it and deep down he already knows how good he is and that he doesn't need anyone else to tell him that.

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that Lids didn't play a lot in Sweden once we drafted him. Most Swedish people never got to see him develop and be Awesome.

Floppa, OTOH, is in Sweden every damn year, recovering from an injury and pretending he's gonna play again.

Forsberg is the furthest thing from a chicken s***, if you take your homer glasses off for a second.

Well when I think of Forsberg, I always think of his talent and skill set. But we've seen many fans make those claims and call him Floppa. I'd just rather Sweden have someone else get that kind of publicity.

You need to understand our culture a bit, for most swedes the national team is everything and they couldn't care less about the NHL, both Sundin and Lidstrom went over to North America to play when they were very young, the difference between these two is that every world championship Sundin was there for the national team, a true national hero, while lidstrom had so many kids and were a family man so he rather stayed with them (sundin just got married and has no kids) and had no motivation for the world championship.. I think lidstrom played in one or two world championships before he went to detroit, we're talking very long time ago, then he went to one in late 90's, the world cup in 04 the olympics in 98,02,06 and the world cup of 2004 i think... sundin basically went to every big national tournament from 91-06

Strangely, whenever the Worlds were to be played, Sundin was available and Lidström was usually busy. Why could that be?

World championships are played in May, when detroit got knocked out in 1st, 2nd, 3rd round they were in quarter/semi finals and he could go but he opted to say no like all the time

Atleast he didn't wave the flag around like everyone else just held it up towards his shoulder, he's smart, with his body you can get injured just walking :D

It's crazy to think this could be his 5th Olympics.

And the only ones who think it's weird that he's there are Red Wings homers who can't see past a long-dead rivalry to recognize a great player.

Boo.

Why can't it be someone that doesn't have a "Yeah he was a great player but a chicken s*** diver" kind of reputation?

This is how I've always thought of him. Why oh WHY did he feel the need to dive so many times? He was really a very good player.

On the other hand, after watching him walk in the arena carrying the flag, I immediately remembered why I always called him "ferret face".

Maybe because everyone was constantly cheap-shotting him? Besides I've seen him make 10x more plays where he SHOULD have fallen down but managed to stay on his feet than I've seen him embellish and fall.

In the video you posted to make your point, he went down like he was shot. Just saying...
