dicksmack 33 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) I've loved it when Russians have won most of our North-Amero-trash NHL Awards... We all have unguarded moments when speaking but as noted above, the Olympics are a particularly bad time to go all Don Cherry on the air. Rick Zombos Ghost 82 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 I guess if we're going to get mad at Milbury for anything, we might as well be mad at the fact that he's allowed to express his opinion on national tv when he has this kind of a track record: LOL hes the Matt Millen of the NHL
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) Imagine if he or any other hockey analyst/commentator had made a derogatory comment about Canadian hockey or American hockey. His ass would get canned so fast, the sentence wouldn't be finished before it came out of his mouth. Whatever Milbury thinks about Russian hockey, he's free to think it. However, there's a time and a place for everything and the Olympics is neither that time nor that place. Edited February 26, 2010 by Electrophile

Original-Six 254 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 (edited) Milbury is indeed American. He's also a s***ty ex-coach and is very typical of the media to come out and spout such garbage to gather attention to a crappy network with just as crappy regional coverage. Eurotrash is also a word used in the States, to a near exclusivity, so no Canadian influence in that one -- in fact, Canada shouldn't even be a factor in this. It's just a dumbass American being another dumbass American much akin to the type of Ann Coulter and other xenophobic retards. There's not really any justifying this nor can it be poo-poo'd off into an excuse of context. It was clear what he meant, and I look forward to him now backpedaling off a cliff to try and make politically correct a rather straight forward phrase. Milbury was trying to be like his idle Don Cherry Hes been following in his footsteps. Coaching, broadcasting, saying stupid s*** about euro hockey/players etc....Next hes going to start wearing ridiculous outfits. Guest micah Report post Posted February 26, 2010 I'd rather see the Satellite Hot Stove for two intermissions. Who needs yet another blowhard blathering away against Eurpoeans? I think the blathering against Europeans is going to go away for a few years after this tournament is done. I think they'll be looked on more with pity than disdain until they can manage to collectively get their s*** together.

Guest micah Report post Posted February 26, 2010 Not as long as Grapes is still around. I dunno. It sems kinda redundant. Why say "the Euros generally don't play with heart and are soft as butter" when everyone knows it and has this tournament fresh in their mind. Cherry doesn't go on and on about ice being cold, because everyone knows that ice is cold. I think that's how it will be with Euro-bashing for a while. They are collectively substandard hockey players, the world knows that they are collectively substandard hockey players, no need to go on and on about it. titanium2 867 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 Bullsh*t It's funny because I'm guessing a lot of Europeans think the same thing about NA in terms of skill and ability to think the game.
Guest micah Report post Posted February 26, 2010 hmmm....so substandard and not having your s*** together means winning the last 11 of 14 gold medals? No, substandard in that they'll have nothing better to do this weekend than watch the teams that were better than them play. Maybe they can polish their medals while the watch the ceremony and remember when.
zettie85 106 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 hmmm....so substandard and not having your s*** together means winning the last 11 of 14 gold medals? That is such a useless argument. Prior to the break up of the Soviet Union they dominated because they could send their absolute best every Olympics. The Russians won once after the break up and still had tons of great players at the time. Russia, Sweden, Czech, Canada and Sweden. That is when I would start counting. I would say that 1980 could be included because it was so amazing. Every great NA player was a pro. Lots of countries held there players back for the reason of playing in the Olympics. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 European teams are not sub-standard. In 1998 and 2006, it was Euro teams who met in the Gold Medal game. This just wasn't their year to dominate. Where were USA and Canada in the last Olympics? In the toilet.

Even if you count just after the break up of the Soviet Union the Euros still have more gold medals lol The hate for European hockey is tremendous. No. I don't hate European hockey. By your reasoning then Sweden is the most dominant hockey nation because they have 2 gold medals since the early 92 games. They are definitely not as bad as some people are saying they are but get real. I have was 2 young in 92 but looking at the roster, Russia had all future soon to be pros. Sweden's roster > Canada's roster in 94. 98 the Czech's had Hasek, enough said. 02, all-north American final. 06, 2 very under performing NA teams. 10, USA into the finals. We will see how Canada fairs tonight. I wouldn't say Euro's are running away with it

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 27, 2010 Eurotrash is a derogatory term for pretentious Europeans who dress in ugly clothes. I don't see the relevance to hockey, but tihs Euro baiting is making me sick. I'm so tired of hearing about "soft Euros" when it's become painfully clear that is no longer true.
