Guest blueadams Report post Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Miller-Filppula-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lilja Howard Osgood ...Each of the first three lines has a great center (Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula), a great secondary scorer (Bertuzzi, Franzen, Williams), and a great net-presence (Holmstrom, Cleary, Miller). In the playoffs (and yes, I'm talking about the playoffs), I'm guessing that Abdelkader replaces Miller, but we should be alright there for now. Then we've got that great shut-down line as well, which will probably get as many, if not more, minutes as the third line. Though some people might be calling for a mix up of the defensive pairings, I doubt it'll happen. ...It's also nice to not have any players, aside from Filppula and Rafalski, in the semi-finals. The olympics have probably actually had a positive overall impact for the team...in helping Franzen, Kronwall and Filppula get back up to speed...and in providing much needed rest for injured players like Holmstrom and Williams, veteran players like Bertuzzi and Draper, and most importantly, our overworked goalie, Howard. The boost we'll get from our other revitalized non-participants - Cleary, Miller, Helm, Eaves, Stuart, Ericsson, and Lilja - is also going to give us something extra. The break might even end up being a plus for Osgood (but who knows there). ...I'm not too worried about Zetterberg and Datsyuk being worn down, as they're still relatively young, but I am a little bit worried about Rafalski and Lidstrom. It would be nice if we could limit their minutes a little bit down the stretch. I can't wait! The Stanley Cup's gonna have to come through Detroit. *EDIT* - Most people responding seem to think that we need to keep pav and hank together...so... Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi Cleary-Helm-Williams Miller-Draper-Eaves #1) Most have suggested Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom, Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi, Bertuzzi-Miller-Williams, Draper-Helm-Eaves. I don't think that you can put Bertuzzi and Williams, essentially our two worst defensive players, on the same line. So, for that reason, I'm switching Cleary and Bertuzzi. But I also really liked the way Cleary and Williams played together with Zetterberg earlier in the season. Helm isn't Zetterberg, obviously, but still, it's a solid, defensively responsible third line that's going to score a goal every once in a while as well. #2) I don't think that you can have Miller getting third line center minutes while Helm is getting fourth line center minutes. I hate breaking up the Draper-Helm-Eaves line, but really, Miller-Draper-Eaves is going to give you ALMOST the exact same thing. Very good shut down line. Little less potential offensively. Still a great fourth line. Edited February 25, 2010 by blueadams

Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 Lines look good to me. Hopefully they are not all exhausted and worn out after all these Olympic games in a short period of time. I think having a full complete roster (for the most part) back will spark the team with some energry. This should hopefully give the Red Wings a late season surge and boost themselves into the playoffs.

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 Relative to who? Bertuzzi on our first line is a horribly sad state of affairs. Datsyuk and Zetterberg aren't good enough this year to be separated IMO.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 I just changed it. I swapped Ericsson and Lilja, figuring that Ericsson was once a forward and sucks on defense anyway.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 (edited) Who did we get for Stuart? Holland, with Lilja and May's help, convinced him to waive his no-trade clause. We traded him for picks and freed up some much needed cap room on the offseason. Also, I actually put Flip on my second line, unlike some other people. That empty net goal convinced me of his shooting prowess. Edited February 25, 2010 by GMRwings1983
