GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Am I the only one who thinks this had no effect at the end of the day? They beat Germany and Russia easily and Slovakia didn't have many shots on goal until the end. Luongo honestly didn't look that much better than Brodeur and probably didn't put up better numbers. USA just had better bounces against Brodeur and Miller played better in that game. I guess what I'm saying is that they would have won even with Brodeur, although I still think he's overrated. Broken 16 381 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Brodeur looked like a stumbling fool out there. Luongo didn't. That's about the only difference as far as I can tell. I think the decision was based less on who was the better goalie and more on sending a message to the rest of the team. It worked.

That's a part of it, but I think they'd be motivated anyway after that loss to USA, whether Brodeur was pulled or not.
Guest Four Report post Posted March 1, 2010 The guy literally flopped.. Literally. Anyone see Raffi's goal after he batted the puck? FLOP.

Germany- they didnt really need a goalie Russia- the way Nabby played Russia had no chance regardless of Canada's goalie Slovakia- meh you may have a point. Neither Brodeur or Luongo look amazing but Brodeur kept over playing the puck and turned it over A LOT which led to goals being scored on Canada. I think that was the major reason he was benched. titanium2 867 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Am I the only one who thinks this had no effect at the end of the day? You don't think Brodeur got in the way too much with his taste for handling the puck? Bobby Loo just stopped it.
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 You don't think Brodeur got in the way too much with his taste for handling the puck? Bobby Loo just stopped it. He made one huge mistake on the Rafalski goal when he didn't clear the puck well. I also think Babcock did it as a message sender, but I'm just saying that this is a scenario where the goalie change probably didn't matter that much in the grand scheme of things. I doubt Brodeur would have lost the Gold Medal for them had he continued.
Guest mindfly Report post Posted March 1, 2010 No Luongo is a butterfly, Brodeur is not, Butterfly is much more successful especially against the americans
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Luongo was adequate to do the job just as Ozzie is adequate for Wings to win Cup. Let's just say that going into OT, I think Canadians as a whole were more nervous with Luongo in net after letting one in with 25 secs than Americans with Miller in net. CopenhagenWing 38 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 Dunno, I thought Luongo was extremely good today. Haha, I think he looked like Howard did at the beginning of the season. Brodeur would have been fine. Great goalies recover from bad outings.

Serapth 3 Report post Posted March 1, 2010 I don't think Lou won games like Miller did, and I don't even think he really played much better than (his) average at best, as his goals against attest. Hell, he didn't even really make any giant momentum changing saves over the course of the tournament and did let in a few soft goals. That said, Luongo was a thousand times better than Brodeur. Brodeur didn't do anything overwhelmingly great either, but he did have two staggeringly stupid plays. Would he have bounced back after that game? Could be, look what happened with Kippy in the Bronze medal game, but I don't think he earned the chance to try again, especially with Luongo and Fleury waiting in the wings.
