Brendan Smith's Wisconsin Badgers absolutely destroyed RIT today in the national semi-finals 8-1 and Mr Smith had quite a day. 5 assists. Thats right 5. Granted it wasn't against the greatest competition ever but hey lets be happy about the big numbers put up by a future Red Wing blueliner!

Great Job

I'm just looking forward to the Miami-BC tilt. A guy who played at my high school plays for Miami!

It may not have been the strongest competition but it was a team good enough to make the frozen 4 which is still pretty good. 5 assists in a big game like that is huge as well. Smith is gonna be a great NHLer I think. From what I've heard he's not scared of physical play either.

Went to the Badger - RIT game tonight at Ford Field, and watched Smith closely. He plays a fairly sound game, but I was disappointed that he wasn't bigger physically. I went down to the glass during warm-ups and was surprised that he wasn't as big as I thought he was. (I know, I know - he's young, still growing, etc.) He seems to have decent hockey sense, and generally played a smart game. Of course, RIT was completely overmatched the entire game.

Was there, tonight. The Wisconsin/RIT was a blowout the whole way. BC was closer, until BC opened it up late. Miami could not connect on their passes. Finals are Eaves's Dad's team versus his Alma mater.

Question: Does anyone know for sure whether or not Smith will leave college for Grand Rapids next year?

That's what was strongly implied after the prospects camp this summer. Smith was obviously a 'vet' prospect out there and at least one reporter asked about his plans with college. From what I recall, both Smith and the management had a "wait and see" aptitude since Smith has struggled a bit with injuries in the past.

After being named a candidate for the Hobey Baker it's pretty clear Smith is ready to take a stab at pro hockey. My bet is that he'll get a look in GR this coming season.

How do you figure. Wisconsin is still playing and the griffins only have 3 games left.

We went last night to the 8:30 game as we live on the western side of the state. It was a bummer that Miami fell part in the 2nd period as I was root for them after what happened last year in the Final. However, I took along my binoculars as we were in the upper deck (336). After they resurfaced after the 2nd period I looked through the binoculars at light reflecting off of the ice around the goal on our end of the sheet. It looked absolutely terrible as I could see deep ruts and the surface looked incredibly uneven. Was anyone here close to the ice level last evening and got a look at it? I will say I didn't notice the puck bouncing around more than a normal game.

Also, I had a friend sitting high up center ice that said that they had a lot of people with lower bleacher tickets that came up to their section to watch the game. They reported that the view from the first 12 rows of the bleachers was almost useless. They weren't too happy about coughing up $$$ to then end up squatting in the $79 section to be able to see the game. The worst was the section behind the benches. The players stood through most of the game and their view was almost totally blocked.
