DETROIT (AP)—Nicklas Lidstrom(notes) says his oldest son is enrolled in a Swedish school for the fall—just in case he decides to retire.

The Detroit Red Wings star acknowledged that will be a factor.

“It’s part of the decision,” he said Monday, two days after the end of his 18th NHL season. “It’s something we had to do to make sure we’re covered on both ends.”

Lidstrom said if he chooses to re-sign with the Red Wings, his 16-year-old son Kevin will return to attend school in suburban Detroit.

I don't like the sound of this. Although, everyone, including the Red Wings management, believes that he'll be back for another year. Hopefully, this isn't a case of everyone being overly optimistic. I don't want to this to be analogous to a little kid thinking he gets a certain Christmas present, but then wakes up and looks under the tree, and realizes that it isn't there.

Meanwhile, I'll hold my breath...

Sigh... No.

Nick himself said that he simply had him apply just in case they actually move to Sweden. It's like getting accepted into different colleges. If Nick stays then Kevin will continue to go to CC.

CC... Booooo! Haha.

He had him enroll just in case. He's no doubt enrolled in his current school in Michigan as well.

didn't lids himself go to a school like that at one point? I recall hearing something like that. A school where you live on campus just like college kids? So even is lids stay here his son could still go to the hockey school.

Not panicking yet. Perhaps if his real estate suddenly goes on the market. Feel like Nick has some unfinished business and he knows he is still one of the most elite defensemen in this league.
