FunkedUp 29 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 link DETROIT (AP)—Nicklas Lidstrom(notes) says his oldest son is enrolled in a Swedish school for the fall—just in case he decides to retire. The Detroit Red Wings star acknowledged that will be a factor. “It’s part of the decision,” he said Monday, two days after the end of his 18th NHL season. “It’s something we had to do to make sure we’re covered on both ends.” Lidstrom said if he chooses to re-sign with the Red Wings, his 16-year-old son Kevin will return to attend school in suburban Detroit. I don't like the sound of this. Although, everyone, including the Red Wings management, believes that he'll be back for another year. Hopefully, this isn't a case of everyone being overly optimistic. I don't want to this to be analogous to a little kid thinking he gets a certain Christmas present, but then wakes up and looks under the tree, and realizes that it isn't there. Meanwhile, I'll hold my breath...
titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 Sigh... No. Nick himself said that he simply had him apply just in case they actually move to Sweden. It's like getting accepted into different colleges. If Nick stays then Kevin will continue to go to CC. CC... Booooo! Haha.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 This article should help clarify some things on the Lidstrom front. His son's enrollment in a Swedish school doesn't actually have any bearing on his decision.

RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 Is there any possibility that maybe his son would go to school in Sweden and stay with relatives or something - he's old enough at 16? just a thought.....
zata40 3 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 didn't lids himself go to a school like that at one point? I recall hearing something like that. A school where you live on campus just like college kids? So even is lids stay here his son could still go to the hockey school.
Ram 240 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 Not panicking yet. Perhaps if his real estate suddenly goes on the market. Feel like Nick has some unfinished business and he knows he is still one of the most elite defensemen in this league.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 11, 2010 He might want to go to Vasteras anyways. He'd probably learn more there.
