miller76 463 Report post Posted June 6, 2010 Does this mean Paul MacLean is safe? I hope so. The article which is in this link, states other possible coaching vacancies, and who may fill them. MacLean isn't mentioned anywhere, including Tampa. Portland Pirates coach Kevin Dineen, may be the front runner for the the job there. I initially read this on Kuklas Korner, but the link originated with the Blue Jackets writer of the Columbus Dispatch. The Blue Jackets now face a nervous couple of days. Not only would Boucher turning down the job be an embarrassment to the organization, but it could sting the other finalists for the job -- Manitoba Moose coach Scott Arniel, Portland Pirates coach Kevin Dineen and Blue Jackets interim coach Claude Noel. titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 6, 2010 I wonder why McClelan was "good enough" for a head coaching job and MacLean wasn't.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 From TSN : The Columbus Blue Jackets have called a press conference for Tuesday afternoon, where they will reportedly name Scott Arniel as their new head coach. The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Arniel has been hired by the club, but the former NHL player is not commenting on the report. Earlier on Monday, Hamilton Bulldogs head coach Guy Boucher declined an offer to take the same position with Columbus. Late reports from Rue Frontenac and CKAC on Monday night stated that Boucher has instead accepted the head coaching job with the Tampa Bay Lightning. ... stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 I wonder why McClelan was "good enough" for a head coaching job and MacLean wasn't. Maybe MacLean doesn't actually want one and was only using that as posturing for a raise... there's a lot to be said about being happy where you're at, not everyone needs to take that "next step" to be happy in their career... stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 Good signing Yzerman! Well, he's unproven at the NHL level, so it's hard to say if it will be a good signing, but time will tell... his minor league numbers are pretty impressive though and obviously if he was offered a job by Columbus as well, there's something there... Time will tell...

Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Supposedly Boucher is going to bring his assistants from Hamilton with him to Tampa, so it appears that MacLean is safe with the Wings. However, according to the latest reports, the Bolts and Boucher are still negotiating, but it appears he is definitely their man - The Tampa Bay Lightning were still in negotiations Tuesday trying to finalize a deal with Guy Boucher to become their new head coach, a source told ESPN.com.It was hoped a deal could be reached later Tuesday or Wednesday, the source said. Montreal website RueFrontenac.com first reported the Lightning offering Boucher the job on Monday night. KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 Well, he's unproven at the NHL level, so it's hard to say if it will be a good signing, but time will tell... his minor league numbers are pretty impressive though and obviously if he was offered a job by Columbus as well, there's something there... Time will tell... Agreed with you still unproven but Yzerman did sign the best rookie coach out there. IMO it's a big achievement for him as his first year as a GM signing the best rookie coach. Now here in Montreal they are so hyped up about Boucher that the fans we're actually wanting Martin out and Boucher in. Habs fan did not want to lose Boucher at all trust me. Don't forget also the Habs have been developing better coaches then players lately. Michel Therrien Claude Julien There are others in which I can't remember right now probably cause I'm at work and dead tired. Guy Boucher (still unproven but has the resume to be a great coach)
Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 Looks like an excellent signing. I admit I didn't know much about Guy Boucher before his name came up as a Tampa coaching candidate, but I like the choice. Like others have said, he's unproven at the NHL level but has the resume to indicate he will be successful. Much like Steve, who doesn't seem to be wasting any time in putting his crew together. So far I'm impressed, but again, like others said, time will tell. Hiring good people puts you in a great position to be successful, but the ultimate test is on the ice. Hopefully the Bolts players will respond favorably to Boucher and his assistants. BTW - has anyone heard about Boucher bringing his Bulldogs assistants with him? I didn't get a chance to listen to the presser (work got in the way...dammit! LOL) and I had read that's something he wanted. Just curious.
