VanDer 58 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 I noticed a couple of weeks ago an interesting connection between my two favorite team, Detroit Red Wings and Manchester United. I know a lot of you couldn't care less about this but i thought i would post it anyway. The connection is between Detroits playoff finishes and Man Uniteds champions league finishes in the past few years: 2007- Detroit: Stanley Cup semi final, Man United: Champions League semi final 2008- Detroit: Stanley Cup winners, Man United: Champions League winners (what a great year ) 2009- Detroit: Stanley Cup final, Man United: Champions League final 2010- Detroit: Stanley Cup quarter final, Man United: Champions League quarter final I am intrigued by this

MannyK 16 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 the Michigan Wolverines' hockey team mirrored the Red Wings season this year (or vice versa, I suppose, cuz U-M's season started and ended first) -both had pretty decent expectations by their standards (both are franchise with high expectations) -both had a bad start to the season (at least partly due to injury) -both made an amazing run at the end of the season to make the playoffs -both got knocked out in the 2nd round of the playoffs also 2008 was a pretty good year for both.... Wings won the Cup, and Michigan made it to overtime of the Frozen Four... the best they've done in my life (since I've been paying attention, at least) GO WINGS! GO BLUE! McAwesome 754 Report post Posted June 10, 2010 (edited) If you we're paying attention, you would've loved 1997 then, eh? Amen to that, '97 was a great year for Michigan sports, the Wolverines also won the National championship in football later that year (although the Rose Bowl was played on 1/1/98, it was still for the 97 season), Barry Sanders broke 2,000 yards and the Lions made the playoffs (that is enough of an accomplishment) Edited June 10, 2010 by McAwesome
MannyK 16 Report post Posted June 11, 2010 If you we're paying attention, you would've loved 1997 then, eh? sadly I was only 10 years old in '97... I was a huge Red Wings fan already (family loves hockey), but I was paying attention to Michigan football though, so that was a cool New Years (98)! I have since attended University of Michigan and just graduated this year, and I played in the Hockey Pep Band all 5 years I was there.... so I wish I would've been more cognizant of the Michigan Hockey team back in the day... haha
