Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Flyers center Danny Briere and youngest son Cameron survived a crash with a tractor-trailer early Thursday morning right outside Binghamton, N.Y.The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. north of the New York-Pennsylvania line. Briere was trying to pass a tractor-trailer on Interstate-81. He was "a little drowsy," according to New York State Police Sgt. Steven Barlow, and drifted into the other lane of traffic, swiping the tractor-trailer. The 32-year-old's black Range Rover hit a guardrail. He and his son were both taken to the hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. The truck driver was also treated and released. The big rig swerved and jackknifed, tying up traffic for about five hours. The Flyers forward released a statement Thursday afternoon: "I was in a car accident in New York," said Briere. "I was driving home to visit family and friends back in Canada when I got into an accident [Wednesday] night. My youngest son (Cameron) and I are both OK. We are doing fine." He added that he appreciated concerns about his well being. Briere, a native of Quebec, came to the Flyers in 2007 after spending the first decade of his NHL career with Phoenix and Buffalo. He was a beast during the Flyers’ Stanley Cup Playoffs run scoring 12 goals and adding 18 assists in 23 games. Briere was ticketed for an unsafe lane change, police said. Good to hear he's okay. Marty Barry 230 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Yeah, I am very happy to hear that he and his son are ok. I just think that "a little drowsy" in qoutes like that leads the reader to automatically think alcohol was involved. I highly doubt it with his son in the car. Barrie 900 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 I'm glad to hear he's ok. Funny, I was on the same highway, 1-81, two days earlier around the same time, coming home from a trip to New York City!
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Glad he and his son are alright, hopefully no injuries or re-injuries as a result but seems they are alright. Briere is a playoff beast.

That's the first thing I thought of, but I get a little drowsy i suppose from driving long distances at night. Glad to hear everyone is ok, though!
Travis 576 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 That's the first thing I thought of, but I get a little drowsy i suppose from driving long distances at night. Glad to hear everyone is ok, though! A friend of mine read a study that said driving tired is equal to driving 'buzzed' as far as reaction time and ability goes. Regardless, the reason for the quotations is not to imply that it isn't true; those are merely his exact words.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 I am really glad Danny is OK and Cameron, too. I am also often "drowsy" at 12:30AM, so I suspect this is an accident that could have been avoided, but it's nothing more than that: an accident. Bet Danny will think twice before he drives when he's that tired again. Good outcome, considering what could have happened. Safe summer to all our guys and everyone else's, too! Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 That's the first thing I thought of, but I get a little drowsy i suppose from driving long distances at night. Glad to hear everyone is ok, though! Pretty much. I drove once at 2 am for 12 hours straight. I almost swerved headfirst into a semi (in a snow storm no less).
Travis 576 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Pretty much. I drove once at 2 am for 12 hours straight. I almost swerved headfirst into a semi (in a snow storm no less). I used to be in a touring band. When we were first getting our bearings about us, one of us would take an entire drive by themselves. I drove for 18 hours once, and two others drove for 24 and 25 respectively. We were beyond stupid to do that.
Barrie 900 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 I find the best way for me to stay up while driving at night is to keep the car cold and play my favorite music. The combo of being cold and singing keeps me awake! Of course, coffee always helps too!

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 Great to hear he is alright especially with younger son. Could only even imagine how he must feel right now. Was driving quite tired the other day myself after a day of sipping some drinks (dumb as s*** I know) but it was pretty bad I hit the rumble strips good thing! Wow that was just stupid reading. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted June 19, 2010 I was in the passenger seat of this, five years ago: A drunk driver (3X the limit) blew a red light going 80MPH, no headlights on, on Christmas Eve at 7:30PM. My friend and I walked (well, limped) away from this. Please don't drink and drive, and if you're tired, give the keys to someone else. BTW, if you see a car with no lights on and it's dark out, beware. It's often a sign of an impaired driver...
