newfy 695 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 I really like what Miller brought for us...he stepped in and helped out when our team was in shambles with a few timely goals and really helped our struggling pk... the only problem is that we are going to have at least 2 forwards sitting at all times if all our RFA's sign and we stay healthy... Hudler, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Franzen, Zetterberg, Cleary Bertuzzi, Filppula, Ritola Abdelkader, Helm, Eaves Draper, Miller 2 of those bottom 5 will be healthy scratches on a nightly basis, swapping in and out of the lineup as chemistry dictates... I think they all deserve roster spots... it will be difficult to decide who's in and who's out every night... They have a bit too much trade worth to just have them sitting in the press box. We could get an alright return for Miller.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 The bottom six is getting really clogged. To me, Miller's defensive aptitude was awesome last year and it was what kept him in the lineup. He definitely had a tiny bit of say in what the Wings wanted to do on the PK iirc. In training camp they need to rank the bottom six forwards who are up in the air (Miller, Abdelkader, Ritola, enforcer) on defensive aptitude and see who they can trade away for a late round pick or something. Babcock said that Abdelkader will be on the PK from day one. So if Abdelkader can provide what Miller does AND give solid minutes of tough forechecking then Miller is expendable, despite all the great things he's done for the Wings this past year. 1 redwingfan19 reacted to this
robb himself 143 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 yeah I agree with that 100% looks like someone is going to have to go...I just wish they could all stay is all...but that is just getting selfish! Miller will probably be the odd man...and I can see us getting a mid round pick for him...maybe Steve could use him in Tampa?

After last season I think his stock is the highest it has been since he has been in the NHL. Now is a good time to trade him, I wish we coulda done it at the draft for another pick. Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 I'd like to see Miller go, Ritola sent down (or plucked off waivers) and an enforcer type player signed. He and Draper can share ice time.
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted June 27, 2010 I will be surprised if Kenny does anything this summer. I like the roster as is actually... Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hudler-Zetterberg-Bertuzzi Cleary-Filppula-Eaves Abdelkader-Helm-Miller Draper-Ritola Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Kindl Meech Howard-Osgood I say keep the cap space for the trade deadline. It's a shallow UFA pool and I think even the 3rd and 4th liners like Asham and Burish will be overpaid. I'm excited to see what rookies Kindl and Ritola can do. Lets face it. The Wings are a legit Cup threat right now as is. We can be better. But I'd have no problem starting the season status quo, seeing how we start and then re-evaluating our needs. I'm sure Kenny will shop around for a big physical winger for the 4th line and a rugged big dman who can hit to be the #6 dman. I just think when Silly Season starts, NHL GM's will throw more cash at the UFAs then Kenny is willing to spend or CAN spend. We'll see soon enough.
