My guess would be the L.A. Kings. I could see him signing there, they have ton of young talent and cap to sign him...

If not I could honestly see him heading over to the KHL, which would be very upsetting.

Maybe someone like the Rangers as well. I could see him going there if they could clear some cap for him, or even Ottawa?

L.A. is really the best spot though. Not many teams can fit him with the salary he commands. Unless he drops his asking price, teams are limited...

What about Colorado? They have been flying under the radar. One of the youngest teams in the NHL with lots of cap space to burn.

That is a posibility. However I just don't see him landing there. I don't know why but just doesn't seem like he'd fit there. But if he went there Colorado would instantly be a playoff team.

I would absolutely love to see him in LA along side Kopitar...if it happens...look out

be about it...

Yeah I agree. That would be sick! That team would also instantly jump to the top. Look out for L.A. (regardless of getting Kovi or not) over the next couple of years.

They need a capable goalie before they'll really become dangerous.

Not trying to get to much off topic here but you don't think Quick can handle the job?

He effectively collapsed late in the season, and he was not very good in the playoffs.

This is true. But Lombardi has stated in the media out here, multiple times, he's the guy!

That doesn't mean he'll do well.

I don't know. He was solid for a bit, then trailed off. I am curious to see what he does this season.

The media is putting a lot of pressure on the Kings this year to do a little more. They want a big name here. It's like they can't build Kopitar up enough. They need someone else to be a superstar. That's why I think they probably have the best shot in landing a Kovalchuk type of guy.

But ultimately I think Kovalchuk will sign in the KHL, for a duration that would run through the next olympics in Sochi. xm reports frequently about him, not wanting to be put in a situation of being under contract with a team in the nhl, and the nhl not participating in the next olympic games. I guess he is playing in the games, whether Bettman says so or not!

Kovalchuk exiting out to the KHL for four years or so, might be a big wake up call to this league, and one more black mark on Bettmans record of trying to be a ******* control freak!

My GOD I hope it's LA. Nothing's motivated me yet to drive the extra hour to Staples Center, but that would sure do it (yay for bandwagoning)! Sounds like a good fit to me...him and Kopitar together, and on a team that isn't just another crappy-and-nobody-cares-anyway team like the Thrashers. And is he the partying type of Russian? If so, LA's got plenty of trouble for him to get into, hehe.

Does the Lightning really have room for him? I don't know the cap specifics, but keeping Stamkos, Lecavalier, and St. Louis on the same team sounds like an expensive proposition, but maybe they're cheaper dates than I expect. I just hope he doesn't go to the KHL...I like watching him play when he's on it.

Does anyone have the skinny on capspace and the amount LA wants to spend on their roster? I mean... in a year or so they're going to be paying out their ears to keep all that young talent around... Johnson, Quick or Bernier (I *think* that's how you spell it?) and Doughty are just a few players that come to mind...

The punchline is Kovy is gonna command a crap-ton of cash... and I'd hate to see a budding team like LA get shoehorned the same way Chicago is right now. If he isn't signing for at or around $8mil on a multi-year deal, I don't see him going anywhere on this continent.

I would say nashville, with the trades they recently made it looks like they're getting ready for something big.

They don't have the money to spend up to the salary cap. That's why they're shedding salary like they did in '07.

Besides, no team would make such moves---i.e. trading away its captain---if there were so little certainly (see: none) that a free agent would actually sign with them.
