Worst contract of the day award is still going to Toronto taking Armstrong at 3 mil. Just wait till he blindsides someone and gets suspended, hes the perfect person for the league to make an example of.

I loved Tokyo when I lived there Roppongi FTW.

Man o man, you lived in Roppongi? You must be unbelievably wealthy. But yea, Roppongi Hills is nice (near malls and Tokyo Tower) but the main strip area has gotten REALLY dodgy.

Okay. So how does it work when a team front loads a contract??

The only big benefit of front loaded contracts is that the player gets the big bucks now rather than later which they want because of the time value of money.

Okay. So how does it work when a team front loads a contract??

Take the Hossa deal for example:

7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 7.900 4.000 1.000 1.000 0.750 0.750

Works out to a 5.223 per year hit, the last few years have to drop down drastically for it to work.

Which is why the league has rules to prevent it from dropping too much. For instance it can not go from 7.9 to 1.0, I believe it can't be more than a third of the previous years contract.

Teams front-load a contract to get the player to sign for a lower total amount which reduces the cap hit. The reasoning/benefit to the player is they get the bulk of the contract earlier on and they can re-coup the "lost" money through investing.

Manny Malhotra to Vancouver, 3 yrs / 7.5M no trade AAV 2.5.

big raise for Manny, he could really help Van too though... interesting... maybe a little steep for him with the NTC, but could be good...

Van is a cup contender, they just need little tweaks to put them over the edge.

Nittymaki...the savor of SJ!

LOL!

Meh, I think 3 mil is too much for Armstrong. If Burke didn't jump the gun so fast, he'd probably end up signing for 2 mil. He's a solid guy but 3 mil is quite a lot for his services.

Too true.

Btw, what sites are you guys checking??

Watching NHL live.

Little tweaks = defense. Ballard is a step foward, but they need 1 more.

It's less than that. Take a look at Prongers contract: » $7.600, $7.600, $7.200, $7.000, $4.000, $0.525, $0.525.

From year 5 to 6, it sees around 1/7th of the previous year.
