henrik40 76 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 I hope this movie is sweet. Although I'm sure it is going to be regional in theatres. Which means it won't show down here in the South. Unless he calls it "college football" and tricks people into seeing it.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 (edited) I hope this movie is sweet. Although I'm sure it is going to be regional in theatres. Which means it won't show down here in the South. Unless he calls it "college football" and tricks people into seeing it. Give him an attractive enough lead lady and a couple well known supporting actors and this could do quite well, just based on the fact that Kevin Smith is the writer/director and if it has a well known cast, those 2 thing alone would put it on the radar of the average movie goer... I'm pretty sure it will be a decent budgeted film and will be a nationwide release... I sure don't get the impression that Kevin Smith plans on making this an indy film... Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 yeah I'm not sure how I feel about that. I was never into the teen-aimed comedy films and he was a staple of them for the past decade. I'm willing to give him a chance, though. Maybe it was a move on Smith's part to maximize viewers who might be interested in hockey (young adult males)? dude...watch role models and you'll change your idea about sean william scott getting the lead role. he's gonna be a hockey player that can only fight. the only other guys you could offer that role to are adam sandler and ashton kucher... and sean william scott has already worked with kevin smith. jay and silent bob stike back to name 1. Give him an attractive enough lead lady and a couple well known supporting actors and this could do quite well, just based on the fact that Kevin Smith is the writer/director and if it has a well known cast, those 2 thing alone would put it on the radar of the average movie goer... I sure don't get the impression that Kevin Smith plans on making this an indy film... jason mewes better be a large part of that supporting cast. seth rogan should get a part in the movie too. He was great in Role Models and just has an overall likable persona, not to mention, finding A-list comedic actors that appeal to a mass audience that can actually skate(he grew up in Minnesota, so I'm going to assume he can skate) probably isn't easy AND he has a history with Kevin Smith (Cop Out, Jay and Silent Bob Strike back) and everyone knows that directors like to work with actors they are familiar with... All and all, I think it will be deeper than most expect, but still have a lot of laughs along the way... I like the casting to be honest... missed this before i posted. you know about him too i see. 1 stevkrause reacted to this
jollymania 162 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 Devin Townsend should do the sound track hmm, conflicting stories... well, luckily the role doesn't require him to be the next coming of Bobby Orr, he just needs to be competent... so, get him with a coach and he'll be good to go... they shoudl have him spend a week with worrell and downey learning the role lol
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 Jason Mewes better be a large part of that supporting cast. seth rogan should get a part in the movie too. missed this before i posted. you know about him too i see. Mewes I would hope would be in for sure, he's hilarious, a great supporting actor and Mewes already plays hockey... Seth Rogan would be a great addition as well from a comedic standpoint, but I think he's kinda played himself into more of a leading role lately... Kristin Bell(Forgetting Sarah Marshall) would be a GREAT lead lady, she's funny, can actually act, is smoking hot, is from Detroit AND is a hockey fan, so I would have to imagine this project would entice her... Malin Akerman (Watchmen) wouldn't be a bad choice either for most of the same reasons (except she's from Canada) As for other supporting cast, I wonder if he could get Ryan Reynolds on board (Canadian and avid hockey guy, plus he's funny as hell) Rob Lowe would be a good small part/cameo addition as well... can I have a part in the casting?!?!? Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 Devin Townsend should do the sound track please no more "oh my ******* god"...i'd rather the soundtrack be with bands townsend worked with. didn't he work with soilwork? p.s. yes i listen to lots of metal. during wings games i only listen to in flames, soilwork, dark tranquility and children of bodom. fans of metal AND the wings know why... HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 23, 2010 He implements funny hockey humor in quite a few of his movies. Pretty excited to see it ,although I think Miracle and Slap Shot will always be the best hockey movies. 1 Hockeymom1960 reacted to this

Miracle in the next tier, then Young Blood, Mighty Ducks and Mystery Alaska in the next tier and down the line... leading to pieces of crap like The Love Guru and the proposed hockey musical abortion of a movie... I have high hopes that this film will be able to crack that 2nd tier along with Miracle...

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 24, 2010 I suppose it's good someone's making a hockey movie. I just wish it was a good director. Kevin Smith is funny and a pretty good writer, but he's an awful director. He pretty much peaked with Clerks.
Booster313 138 Report post Posted July 24, 2010 I think Kevin Smith is very talented, with his own material... Which this will be. He is writing it. As far as Mystery it should be tier 2 IMHO, that is if mighty ducks is 3.

I personally agree it should be tier 2, I just think the general consensus is that its not... In regards to Kevin Smith, you're dead on, the guy is a genius and has NOWHERE near peaked to the guy who said that...

IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted July 24, 2010 I went to a comedy / story telling / Q and A thing with Kevin Smith. He is a huge hockey fan, half of his stories included hockey and his passion was unreal. He had mentioned this movie and it was just after he meet with Mitch. At least that is what I recall. His excitement and passion for the sport makes me very excited for this movie. It could be great for exsposure and if not then just great for us hockey fans! I actually think Sean William Scott is great and seems like he might work in the role. If not him then I would reluctantly agree to playing the role.
