KHL President offers Kovalchuk 17-year deal, choice of team

An offer he surely can't refuse.

If he enjoys playing hockey at the highest level, he will.

Players like Jagr, they weren't really true blooded competitors. Is Kovalchuk? I don't know. But if he's someone like, say Ovechkin who needs to always be better than everyone else, he'll stay in the NHL.

He's a UFA. He can go where he pleases. If he chooses to go elsewhere, that's his business. I can understand going to his home country. I can also understand playing for the Cup.

He's talented and has every right to decide what he wants to do. I don't understand the animosity.

From a Finnish hockey forum, by a poster living in St. Petersburg and fluent in Russian: the actual article in Sovsport says that Medveded COULD offer Kovy a similar deal. His deal could also include an option where Ilya could decide whether he towards the end of his career wants to play somewhere else in SKA organization or for Gazprom's veteran team. SKA's ACTUAL offer is still 4 year's/40 million.

So he has NOT really made this offer to Kovalchuk.

H double T, i believe Pavs is far more loyal than that  Indeed, the Kovalchuk situation is annoying and he's not worth the $10 Million per year he'll get wherever he goes. Will he score 50 goals?sure. Will he put up an average of a point per game?Possibly. But when it counts the most, when the pressure is on, he chokes. The regular season means nothing once you get into the playoffs, and $10 Million for a choker doesn't do it for me.

Lol. He's been to the playoffs twice, 9 games, 8 points. Not enough experience to say he's a choker just yet.
