Just thought I'd share these here. I made some game highlights for games 1,6 and 7 from the 2002 series with Colorado. Unfortunately I don't have any of the other games from that series but I'm sure these are everybody's favorite 3.

By far the most nerve wrecking series I've ever watched.

We had to win that series to save our respect, after losing to them in 1999 and 2000. Didn't look good after Floppa scored in OT in game 5, but that wound up being the last goal Colorado scored.

Game 7 was maybe my favorite game ever to watch as a fan.

The best 7 game series I've ever seen. Two weeks of stress and my stomach turning, it was a great feeling. I knew as it was going on, the winner of the series would win the rivalry. Beating the Avs that year was almost more important than winning the Cup.

Game 7, 7-0, is my all time favorite Red Wings game! It is also one of two games I have very fond memories of, remembering where I was. Ordonez's HR in Game 4 of the 2006 ALCS is the other one! Those two games, especially, I'll remember forever!

2002 was my favorite Wings Championship.

That game 7 WAS for the Stanley Cup.

The Wings and Avs were by far the best teams in the league, and everyone knew Carolina wouldn't have a chance against either team. All the money was riding on that game.

That's what made the rivalry extra special. The Wings and Avs were the two best teams in the league for the 6 or so years when the rivalry occurred. In addition to the blood that was lost between the two teams, the opponent was so monumental that the victors often earned Stanley Cups in addition to bragging rights.

I've asked this a couple times on the threads but would you be willing to sacrifice experiencing the rivalry with Colorado for an extra Stanley Cup and perhaps an arguable defense of a dynasty? As you said, the Wings and Avs were the best teams in the league. These two teams won the Cup five out of seven years in the late 90s. If you were to eliminate the Avs from the league (and with it the rivalry) the Wings likely win at least one extra Stanley Cup.

But is it worth it?

Remembering how long I waited as a fan to see the Wings lift the cup back in 1997, that was a great game. Seeing McCarty score that goal made me jump out of my chair and cheer at home. Still, the best game 7 for the Wings was that game against Colorado. The best finals game was the one you pointed out in 1997.

I was at game 1 of the series - far and away the best game I've ever attended. What you didn't see on tv is a fan from behind Roy whip a cup of Pepsi at him during the break after DMacs hat-trick. Got him right in the numbers too. Priceless.
