I just hope none of the Red Wings players end up in this thread. Long term anyway. Injuries are going to happen with every team. As long as we can avoid the 4-6 month ones I'll be happy.

Winger Dan Carcillo's sprained left knee - suffered in Monday's 5-1 win over Ottawa - is worse than suspected, and he will be sidelined for three weeks. Carcillo underwent an MRI exam on Tuesday.

The news just keeps getting worse for the struggling Edmonton Oilers.

Already sitting in last place in the Western Conference, now goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin is headed for the injured reserve list with a groin injury.

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere will miss one to two weeks with a minor groin strain, the club announced on Wednesday.

It just keeps getting worse in the swamp.

The Devils announced that goalie Martin Brodeur will be out up to two weeks with a bruised elbow. The team said that an MRI exam on Brodeur's right elbow was negative, but he has been told to rest his elbow for around 10 days, which would likely mean that the earliest he could return would be against the Canadiens Dec. 2 - missing five starts.

Minnesota Wild forward Guillaume Latendresse will undergo two surgeries on Wednesday and will be out for an extended period of time.

The 23-year-old will undergo hip surgery to repair a torn labrum and will also have a sports hernia repaired.

The Phoenix Coyotes have placed centre Kyle Turris on injured reserve with an upper-body injury and recalled defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson after a brief stint with their AHL affiliate in San Antonio.

Turris was injured in Friday's game against Edmonton and goes on the injured list retroactive to then. The team listed him as week-to-week.

While the team on the ice is enjoying its best stretch in recent memory with four straight wins, the Edmonton Oilers received some potentially bad news today as head coach Tom Renney confirmed that Ales Hemsky would be out for an extended period of time.

"Groins are temperamental in terms of healing," Renney told the Edmonton Journal. "I think it's going to take some time. It could be upwards of a month."

The Pittsburgh Penguins won't know for sure until Monday, but it looks as though Jordan Staal has suffered a setback in his return from a broken hand.

A report on www.insidepittsburghsports.com on Friday said X-rays had revealed another broken bone in Staal's hand but Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma denied that on Friday saying there was some "calcification" issues.
