eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 And here I thought the Devils had a good GM. The problem is that neither Volchenov nor Rolston can be placed on LTIR without missing a minimum or either 10 games or 24 days. If Rolston were out for that long, the Devils could call Henrique back up and have ten forwards, plus with the signing of Mair they would be at 11. Look for Taormina to go back down and Henrique back up after Volchenkov is back.

T.OWingsFan 7 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 and why do people say Lou is still a good GM? his moves since the cap era have been terrible. Is Kovalchuk really worth it? Everyone I think jumps the gun with Lou on the Kovalchuk deal. Not once in his career do I remember Lou overpaying for a forward. He's let great players walk away from NJ due to not wanting to match their salary demands. NJ has a new building, and a Brodeur approaching retirement. The Kovalchuk deal smacks of one of ownership directly telling Lou they wanted Kovalchuk in order to help fill a new building after the old star(s) retire. A very un-Lou like deal. roboturner 562 Report post Posted October 11, 2010 I have to wonder...at what point do these players with mega-contracts start to feel bad that their team can't even ice a full/competitive lineup because of their huge caphits

A very un-Lou like deal. the kovalchuk is just the deal that exposes how bad some of the contracts Lou gave out (in the recent past) that are on the devils. If they managed the cap well with their previous deals, Kovalchuk at $6.7m cap hit shouldn't be a problem. But who (other than the Devils) wants the contracts the Rolston or Zubrus or Salvador has? Half the current roster is overpaid. And the guys they let go like Rafalski and Niedermayer went on to win Cups with their new team. Zajac is probably the only contract they could move but they wouldn't. i thought Chicago's cap woes were terrible, but at least they could trade their players away and get decent draft picks in return. NJ's situation is way worse.

kook_10 1,705 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) It was widely reported that the new ownership specifically pressured Lou into first dealing for Kovalchuk. I sincerely doubt that under normal circumstances he would have made that deal. Especially considering that they had to give up in Bergfors and Oduya, who were good values and playing very well for them before the trade last year. Cormier will probably make the Thrashers lineup later this year too. Lemaire's boring style didnt help put butts in the seats either. The organization is also in a dispute over millions in back rent having to do with Prudential Center construction delays. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 Being at the game tonight, I can tell you that Kovalchuk looked absolutely awful out there. Lost, passes not connecting and his horrendous turnover led to the first Pittsburgh goal. Didn't help that the first goal was a shot that Marty should have been able to snag, unscreened and all. In fact, the only player who looked consistently solid on the Devils tonight was Parise. Of course, the Penguins didn't look all that great either, but they had the benefits of the officials calling tripping any time one of them fell down. That game didn't seem to be a matter of who was better, but who was worse. Devils won that battle handily.

Bring Back The Bruise Bros 1,029 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 Leblond got a one game suspension and I believe he was put on waivers today, leading me to believe that Adam Mair will take his spot on the 4th line.

They have roughly 9 million coming off the books next year with 8 players needing to be re-signed. ...We will take him off your hands Lou!

Yea I'm sure they will find a way, but say this trend continues and they have a terrible season (Which I'm not predicting]. I wonder if they would still cut their depth even more to fit him in. I guess he is the kind of team you build your team around so it's probably worth it. Also, the kovy deal has a cap hit of 6,666,666. A little ominous I'd love it, but we can't afford him either. Just wishful thinking on my part . Easily one of my favourite non wings.
