Rypien is a Grade-A douchebag and the banhammer from Campbell should come down hard and swift. Guest Shoreline Report post Posted October 20, 2010 If the fan said something particularly degrading to Rypien I could maybe salvage some understanding for him but it looked like the two fans involved were just clapping in his direction -- this is done all the time in opposing arenas and worse than that. As it is he looked like he lost his cool with the linesman who was pulling him away from another player, then as he was pulled onto the bench and nudged toward the locker room he stupidly went after a fan. They are what they are - FANS. Imo we 8tha fans that is ) are allowed to cheer/jell etc to our own and visiting team. Yeah, I was just going by what the Minnesota announcers had said at the time, but they ended up explaining in the 3rd. It's too bad, because I like Rypien. He's a lot of fun to watch. There are some things you just can't ever do as a pro athlete, and that's right up there. I'll revise my suspension prediction, too. They were talking about it on ESPN radio (all night with jason smith), and the NHL never gets talked about on ESPN radio. I'd guess him going rogue + the bad press this is resulting in will get a book or two thrown at him. This is also a point that was made on the radio. Since Rypien is a relative no one out side of vancouver, i'd expect at the bare min 10 games, but i'm hoping 15+ The fan was just clapping, we'll never know he the fan was talking smack, but regardless you're a pro athlete and fans are going to run their mouths at you no matter what you do. While I don't condone or support Rypien's actions here, he is not a Matt Cooke type player IMO. My guess for the suspension is 10+ games. According to Bob McKenzie, Bettman's getting directly involved as well since this case isn't a matter of on-ice discipline, which is Campbell's domain. I'm starting to get the feeling more and more than we're looking at a 20+ game suspension, particularly because Rypien's a relative nobody. Attacking fans (who seem to be doing nothing wrong whatsoever) is not acceptable. These are paying fans who buy tickets to the game, who ultimately pay the salary of ALL players, including goons like Rypien. I hope Bettman throws the book at him. Weird Not nearly as weird as you telling me which teams I should root for on any given night. Besides, I really don't care about final standings so long as the Wings are in the playoffs.
