Blueliner 69 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 I was at the game tonight and as I was watching warm-ups, I saw Bert pick up a puck with only his right hand on the stick. I couldn't believe my eyes. He placed the back side of the blade on top of the puck and scooped it up with no problem. It's probably one of the most shocking things I've seen in hockey. McAwesome 754 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 Maybe that's why he plays with one hand on the stick so much

titanium2 867 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 Hahaha, glad someone got it. I got it. I just laughed and didn't comment. You just knew they were going to include some kind of fluid being released. I didn't see the cab fare part coming though. Pun intended.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 Bert has got to be one of the strongest players in the league, and his control with one hand of his stick always amazes me.

robat 13 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 Not saying he isn't strong, but a lot of guys in the NHL can probably lift the puck up with only their top hand on the stick.
Guest scottj Report post Posted November 27, 2010 I like his little move where it looks like he's about to get pushed off the puck then he just spins around n pushes the other guy with one of his hands then passes it to somebody comin up... he does that a lot now it seems lol
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 Seems like he's taking less penalties with his free hand.
truebladearmy 33 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 When I fiddled with hockey a bit, I use to practice using my stick off-handed. Eventually I got pretty good with it that way. Bert practices both hands from time to time, as do many hockey players. Really anything you practice with your right hand you should practice both hands, just for the dexterity it brings. I learned that lesson from swordfighting. Really the only difference between myself and Bertuzzi, is that he happens to be good at hockey, while I am much better at "Watching" hockey. :-p That and when I was trying to stick-handle single handed, it was usually because I was trying to stop myself from falling with the opposite hand
brett 1,029 Report post Posted November 27, 2010 id like to see a clip of this. i tried this before with a 70flex stick and couldnt even get a bend in it with one hand

brett 1,029 Report post Posted November 29, 2010 (edited) Thats what he was talking about? I've seen that before still impressive I thought he meant this but with one hand Edited November 29, 2010 by brett
Blueliner 69 Report post Posted November 30, 2010 Thats what he was talking about? I've seen that before still impressive I thought he meant this but with one hand Yeah, it was the second example in the video, but with only his top hand on the stick. brett 1,029 Report post Posted November 30, 2010 Thanks for the video. That's pretty cool, but he makes it look like its more technique then strength. When I do it with two hands I put a bench in the stick, so I figured they would have a bend in e stick with just one hand but I don't see any bend in that video

robat 13 Report post Posted November 30, 2010 Does anyone who plays/played competitve hockey ever used a warrior stick? I had a Dolomite a few years back. Someone fell in practice and slid into the boards and hit my stick. Snapped on the next shot. I didn't really care for it anyways.
