Guest Heaten Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Bad excuse. Teams have owned us several times this year when they were playing back to back. Not to mention, we'll have lots of back to back games coming up. I hope Babcock isn't preaching the same stuff you are to the team, otherwise there's already plenty of built in excuses. The team lost because their point coverage stunk and they gave up too many odd man rushes on the PP instead of having chances of their own. Not an excuse, this team isn't young like the teams you speak of. This is one of the oldest teams in the league, and struggle back to back. I don't expect them to win many back to back games, I expect them to go on a mad tear after all-star break. Until then, this team will continue to mediocre. Yes, I'm about as much of a coach as you are... niltch. And I never claimed to be. This loss wasn't disappointing for me. I expect the slump to last a couple more months. No doubt this team is going to be a beast in the playoffs.
Guest Howard He Do It?! Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Yeah, what was funny is when he finally decided to pull Ozzie we lost possession in the corner. I cannot believe that Hudler decided to pass the puck back when he had a clear shot to the net late in the 3rd. My jaw just dropped when that happened. Turnovers tonight killed the Wings. I am disappointed in Flips response to tonight's game. With Dats out he needs to be a go to guy but he isn't stepping up like he should/could. Yeah, I hurt my TV's feelings on that play. Unbelievable. Hudler has zero confidence and is constantly passing the puck off to someone who is usually in worse shooting position. He really is just one bug giant joke out there on the ice. gowings00 545 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Starting to look like last year. Whatever happened to those 3-1 or 2-0 victories we had before 2008? I would hate to be Babcock. He spends every Intermission having to rally the boys. Dude can never relax or get an easy night off.

So they are not human and were created by Stan Lee? Just be glad there are no back to back games in the playoffs. This is a built playoff team... not a back to back team. Right now is Red Wings' preseason.

This is a built playoff team... not a back to back team. Right now is Red Wings' preseason. You mean like in 2009 when Games 1 and 2 were back-to-back and the Wings won both of them? You're right. The Wings don't have to worry about winning games on the back-to-back. It's only the regular season after all. What does it really matter in the long run? It's always great to see this team give up four a night and drop the back end of the back-to-back because it doesn't matter.

Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Could I get some more Howie and less Ozzie, please? The Wings seem intent on getting scored on 4+ times a night regardless of who's in net. Four games in a row at 4+ GA, and five in the last six. 1 Nev reacted to this

brett 1,029 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) so you guys are bitching about the last 2 mins of the game? what about the other 58 mins they played and had the opportunity to play good and score goals? agreed regardless whos in net the defense is letting in 4+ goals a game almost all of december. this is no way to win games unless we have hossa and datsyuk in our lineup if the wings played solid defense, and let in 2 or less goals they could win every game cause the scoring is there Edited December 24, 2010 by brett

brett 1,029 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) defense is how you win cups. also datsyuk is not why we are losing games, we were losing games with him. defense please Edited December 24, 2010 by brett 2 Vladifan and haroldsnepsts reacted to this
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Wings just need to clear the screens and get down to block shots. So many fewer goals would be going in. I miss Lilja for that reason alone. 1 Vladifan reacted to this
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) Could I get some more Howie and less Ozzie, please? Oh the guy who let in four goals the night before? Goalies aren't the issue. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 Missed the game, but I can't be the only one making the connection between McCrimmon and the total lack of defense ever since he came here? In my mind that's the only reason world-class defensemen like Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall and Stuart can so often put in great individual efforts and still come up short. Plus, Howard is looking very average. I hope Ozzie at least played well to justify him getting more starts.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 I hope Ozzie at least played well to justify him getting more starts. Not according to this guy: Chris Osgood. I'm saving it for last because this is a little painful for me. Chris, I have one message for you: I'm done. I'm done defending you. I can't do it anymore. Consider me an anti-Ozzie, Osbadite, whatever they are called. I can't take the fact I have no confidence in your ability to stop a puck anymore. I hate feeling like every slapshot from the boards has a good chance of going in. It makes me physically ill seeing you flop around in the crease and seeing your arm outstretched after the puck has already missed the net. But most of all, I hate the fact that every single game, you seem to give up a goal that a) should be stopped, and b) is scored at a time where a big save would ensure a Wing win. Tonight it was the third goal. The first one was screened: I get that. The second one was tipped in off Kronwall's leg: I can see how you missed that. The fourth one was a sick move that fooled you: happens to the best of them. But that third goal was a killer, and it was one you should have stopped. The Wings were only down 2-1, they had just finished killing a penalty, and you had a chance to get out of the first period (a period in which the team played like garbage) only down one goal, and you give up a goal like that: a slap shot from the boards with minimal screening. I want you to get 400 wins, and I want it to happen soon, because, as much as it kills me to say this: you're done. You no longer are an asset to this team on a nightly basis, and if you don't stop this "soft goal" crap, we are going to have no choice but to play Jimmy Howard every single game, and his arms will fall off by the time we get to the playoffs. Maybe I'm being overly harsh on you because you're the goalie, but I just can't do it anymore: you've hurt me too many times. I wish you nothing but success as you go for 400, and I will recognize the feat if/when you do it (see, I'm not even confident enough in you to say you WILL get it). But I need to see you WIN a game for the Wings, not have them win in spite of you. If you're pro-Osgood and you disagree, bring it in the comments. I just can't do it anymore. http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2010/12/23/1894584/detroit-misses-memo-fails-to-realize-game-is-three-periods-blues-
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 I usually like "Winging It In Motown", but I came across that earlier and couldn't disagree more. Jimmy Howard has been no better than Chris Osgood since the Red Wings struggles began. This team will improve when they decide to give a damn in their own zone again. 5 Vladifan, katielvn, Doc Holliday and 2 others reacted to this

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 I guess the moral of the story is, stop giving up four goals every single night. Agreed. When you give up four goals, the problem is bigger than losing Datsyuk. 1 Vladifan reacted to this

TheOwl 77 Report post Posted December 24, 2010 I hate bloggers. Osgood hasn't played well since the Wings lost Game 7 to Pittsburgh. Last season he had some of the worst stats any goalie has had in the past 10 years. This year, he's looking the same. Osgood is not a competent back-up.
