SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Just another example of the incompetency of NHL officiating in general regardless of team. I try to get officiating in any sport the benefit of the doubt given that I have experience officiating basketball and soccer games (albeit at just a club or intramural level back when I was in college, but obviously a decent bit of those playing played sports in high school, are competent athletically, etc.), but even with replay they still mess it up. What is it that makes them so inept at times? Is it just so much grey area or subjectivity in some rules? Because in football, at least when a play is iffy and a coach challenge's it or the ref's review it, pretty much 99 times out of 100 I say or think, "The refs eventually got the play call correct like it was or should have been." I rarely ever tell myself the officiating played a bigger part than necessary in determining the outcome of a football game. In the NHL, whole other story. ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Dreger: Twitter Disgusting......absolutely disgusting. The NHL should be ashamed of themselves.....one dare never to question one of their own in Bettmans mickey mouse organization. Disgraceful bastards. If I was a Kings fans I'd strongly consider setting up a donation fund from the fans to pay the fine. We NEED players/coaches/GMs to SPEAK out about the inconsistentcy of the league more often. Bettman = Big Brother

Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Isn't the rule that if a player of the defending team touches the puck prior to it's entry into the net then the goal is allowed? Watching the video on sportscentre this morning it appeared as though it went off the glove of the LA player and into the net, which if it were anywhere else on the ice would negate the high stick. I'm sure someone else can clarify, but if that is what happened then it's a good call. Of course if you want "conspiracy" why not argue that the NHL owns the Yotes? On the video the commentator said that it's irrelevant if it hits the defender or the goaltender as it was played with a high stick. Not too sure though, I guess as they can't be credited for the goal it comes back to the last offensive player to touch it, which was done so with a high stick. Would be different if he had thrown it in with his glove, but wouldn't think so for a deflection.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted January 22, 2011 Reminds me of the Brad May no goal - why do we even have video replay if you're going to make the ass-backwards conclusion? It is because of the way they utilize replay.
