Could this scenario be allowed?

I know that's it's not possible and we would probably never see it happen but I was wondering if it's actually allowed.

This scenario:

Assuming that The Bolts are not in the playoff hunt and the Wings are in. Ken Holland trades for Stamkos or Lecavalier for the playoffs but then trades them back to TB the following season.

Would this be allowed by the NHL or they would be some problems around the league.

Would be cool tho don't you guys think LOL.

Sorry to break it to you, but Yzerman's focus at this point is to be the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning. I don't think you're ever going to see him do Detroit any favors, despite his history. Lending a superstar player to another team with the chance of them potentially being injured for the next season would be a very ignorant move on the part of any GM. Beyond that, you are correct: the league would never allow it.

There isn't any rule preventing a team from trading for a player at the deadline, then trading them back to the same team in the offseason.

But trades aren't allowed to contain special provisions/future considerations, and the NHL has to approve all trades. Not to mention you still need to be cap compliant after the deadline. I'd imagine there's some kind of anti-collusion rules as well.

So basically, no. It wouldn't be possible even if Yzerman wanted to do it.

I kind of remember some squabbling when Ryan crybaby Smythe was traded and everyone thought that he'd go right back at the start of FA. I Gnight I heard something about a one year wait or something to go back to a team when free agency is involved, but I don't think you can prove tampering when trading is involved.

Yzerman is not going to be doing any favors for the Wings. Nor would the Red Wings organization expect Yzerman to do them any favors.

Even if the league allowed something like this through a loophole or what-not, its highly unethical. Stevie has more pride than that.
