@JoshuaCooper: Preds won't re sign Shane O'Brien

Sorry if this has already been posted in one of the other threads, I've been away all day.

Is there any interest in the signing of Shane O'Brien? I'm not terribly familiar with him. I know he plays with an edge and scored on his own team as a Canuck. Could he fill the 5th slot on the D? Would bring some size and grit.

High on my list. I kind of gave up, assuming Nashville wanted him back. He's a young, physical stay at home guy. In my opinion, he is the definition of what we need in Salei's spot.

If you liked the penalties Abby took in the playoffs, you will love Potatoes O'Brien. He will also pick fights when his team is winning.

There are concrete reasons why his former teams are indeed his former teams: He's definitely not the smartest puck in the bag.

I wish he could be the answer; he is not.

I used to like this guy more than I do now.

He's not as physical as he once was and isn't as good a fighter. I mean, he got owned twice by Bertuzzi in the same game.

He's basically a slightly better version than Doug Janik.

I'd take him if E isn't re-signed, but not otherwise.

Forgive my ignorance...Is he not as physical, or has he not taken as many dumb pen?

This past reg season his pim were 83...He's had quite a few seasons with 150 plus pims.

Probably a bit of both. I know he doesn't fight as often as he used to.

He's still tougher than any of our current defensemen, but so is Doug Janik. Hence the comparison.

With Rafalski gone, we needed some kind of offensive defenseman who could shoot right handed and play physical. Looks like there's no one left who fits that role anymore.

id take him over salei

I'd take a lot of guys over Sally, but O'Brien isn't one of them unless he grows the eff up. There's potential there, but this guy is a buyout in two years if he signs a long-term deal.

Thinking about it more, he would be a perfect 7th defensemen for the Wings. If he can be signed cheap, he can provide a physical presence and good performance when needed.

We already have a Doug Janik? Don't want another one. I'm happy with one.
