Someone made a comment in the earlier Winnipeg jersey thread that said they'd actually have to buy the rights from the Phoenix Coyotes to use the old jersey. On top of that, while most hockey purists (such as myself) would prefer the old logo, creating a new one generates so much extra revenue for the owners. If they used the same logo, it gives people an excuse not to buy a new jersey or article of clothing.

I was under the impression that the rights to the old Jets franchise belong to the NHL. Naming, likeness, and otherwise.

Reminds me of this little ditty...

Money money money moneyyy... MONEY!

Is it a matter of fact that they would make more money off of a new logo? I'd be curious to run an experiment like that.

It's not necessarily a "fact" but it most certainly stands to reason.

I was under the impression that the rights to the old Jets franchise belong to the NHL. Naming, likeness, and otherwise.

Well, yeah currently they are since Phoenix filed for Bankruptcy back in 2009. That's essentially what I was saying without saying it.

Now that the NHL has seized control of the team and continues to try to find a buyer that will keep the team where they are, technically the NHL does own the old Jets franchise.
It's amazing how much clarity comes when you care more about the Red Wings than any individual player.

"They are the best team in the world. They are a team that can just take over when they want to," Chicago's Patrick Kane said (of the Detroit Red Wings).

Even though these are fake, I actually really like the logo.

They could be a lot worse, but I agree that the away jerseys strongly resemble the Blue Jackets' style. Could have done a lot worse, especially considering how atrocious the Thrashers' uniforms were. Oddly enough, I sense the 'military ties' that they were attempting with the blue horizontal piping across the arms. The vertical piping seems to pay homage to the Thrashers' uniform style as well.

I'm not wild about them, though I am happy they went with a classically-inspired look. I think the homes will actually look pretty good on top of the pants that we've seen already.

Wasn't a fan of the logo, but the away jerseys are actually very nice.

I think the new jersey is sick, nice new school take on the old school looking jerseys. The arm bands are cool and I dig the logo.

They're growing on me, wasn't a big fan at first. I think the logo would be better as a secondary but its not terrible either. I do wish there was "Winnepeg" or "Winnepeg Jets" somehow scripted into the blue circle part.

The baby blue is curious. If anyone that knows how has a few seconds, could they change the baby blue the leaf red?

Why would they put Winnepeg anywhere on the jersey?
