Andy Pred 48 337 Report post Posted September 1, 2011 hearing over here that Ryan Johnson has signed a try out contract for the camp, 35 yr old C, not sure what Kennys thinking here, maybe some more depth for GR?
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted September 1, 2011 Tis true. I can only guess this is for some added competition in camp. If they had really wanted an aging 4th line center who can PK, they would have simply re-signed Draper.

If they had really wanted an aging 4th line center who can PK, they would have simply re-signed Draper. Draper would not have gone to GR, whereas Johnson almost surely will if he's actually signed... right now though, this is just a try-out and will probably never materialize into more... newfy 695 Report post Posted September 1, 2011 Johnson is the best faceoff guy in the league. He was at 63 % last season, thats beter than Drapes can do anymore. If we can have a guy like that to pop into games here and there I wont complain late in one goal games
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted September 4, 2011 Johnson is a shot blocking, face-off winning machine. If Emmerton can't beat this guy, then tough luck and I won't lose any sleep over it.
robb himself 143 Report post Posted September 5, 2011 please no. Im just really tired of not letting our young guys get on the roster. Lets keep the youth movement going.
Wingzman91 134 Report post Posted September 5, 2011 This is called "The Dan Cloutier" Where you sign a tryout with one of the better teams in an attempt to get a mediocre team to sign you. Cloutier ended up on the AHL Rockford IceHogs.
LidstromIsASuperhero 29 Report post Posted September 9, 2011 I dont think we need a guy like johnson that much simply because we dont play in our own zone the majority of the game. I would rather keep our young players in the bottom six so we can forecheck tenaciously and keep the puck deep in their zone.
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted September 9, 2011 I think that too many people are reading too much into this "tryout". Thats all it is and nothing more. The young kids need someone to push them and Johnson will do that. If he beats out someone in training camp, I am comfortable with adding him to the lineup. If our younger players really work hard though, they won't be upstaged.
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted September 9, 2011 Johnson would have to be leaps and bounds above two of Emmerton, brunstrom or mursak to take a 14th roster spot... Don't expect that to happen... They want to push the kids and challenge them to see out of those 3 who should get the last 2 spots... Johnson is really just showcasing him self that's really it... And unless he drops jaws at camp he won't be on the Wings roster...
