Danielsm 244 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) Haha you caught me!! . If it were me I would keep Filppula, trade Franzen, let Hudler go, and sign Parise and Semin. Premote Nyquist to first line and you have a dominant top six. Nyquist- Datsyuk- Semin Filppula- Zetterberg- Parise Sound good? Hudler has been great this year and he doesn't cost much. I actually may be inclined to keep him. He's been rather clutch. Third line with PP time? Nyquistfan14 489 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Hudler has been great this year and he doesn't cost much. I actually may be inclined to keep him. He's been rather clutch. Third line with PP time? Yes your talking to a big Hudler fan here. I would keep him for the right price, but we need to get Franzen off of this team ASAP. He's everything that is wrong with this team. No effort, no drive, no head for the game. We need to add talent to the top six and speed, size, grit, and toughness to the bottom six.
atodaso 279 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 We should've seen this coming (Franzen being terrible). His line in that Ram commercial is "Howard's in trouble", but it always makes me think: "You're the one who's in trouble. You can't even score on a truck these days" 1 Motown4013 reacted to this
pondrocket 35 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 last i checked it was a best of 7 series... I know, it is a best of 7. But this was lost at the trade deadline when Kenny "couldn't find a fit". I don't say that without feeling some of his pain. Over two decades of greatness is a tough act to change. I still absolutely trust Jimmy D to be impact-full in the planning to adjust my favorite sports team to be even more competitive in "this" NHL.
Carman 387 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Cleary needs to stay, he's been fine. I wouldn't mind a shake up to the roster with a Franzen trade if the value is close. We need much more consistentcy, not only in scoring goals but defensively in awareness and effort and I just have not seen that in Franzen and as the team's main scoring winger that's not good enough. But the main thing we need to fix is defensive coverage, way too many odd man rushes and wide open players in the slot. The thing I'm not sure about if it's the coaching, or quality of players declining, our defense has gotten worse each consecutive year so something needs to change. I'd like to see the Holland get a top 4 defenseman like Matt Carle, Suter, or Wideman. Forwards outside of Parise don't excite me a whole lot, we might need to try a trade there. No way in hell would I want Semin here.

I'm sure he and Kronwall would become best of friends too. I wouldn't mind one of the Ducks top 3 for Franzen actually. Ryan had a mediocre year and he's a right winger.. Motown4013 350 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Step by Step. 22.6 mill in cap space for 15/23 man roster 1) trade Franzen, Kindl, Emmerton for picks and prospects. Leaving us with roughly 28 mill with 12/23 spots taken 2) Throw Nyquist, Smith, and Mursak on the team leaving us with roughly 25.7 mill in cap space with 15/23 spots taken 3) Resign Helm and Andelkader. Helm 3 or 4 years for 1.75 a year. Abby 3 year 1.2. 22.75 in cap space for 17/23 spots taken. 4) Sign Suter, Parise, and Semin for a total of 19 million. Leaving 3.75 in space with 20/23 spots taken. 5) Sign Konopka and another fourth line physical player for cheap say 1.8 or so for both. Leaving 1.95 in space with 22/23 spots taken. 6) Sign a physical bruising d-man for around 1-1.2. Leaving 750,000- 950,000 in space with a full roster. paulwoodsfan 52 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 I think we all better face facts -- with his contract (eight more years at a cap hit of almost $4M) and his inconsistent-at-best play the past two seasons, Franzen is pretty well untradeable.

I ask because this team NEEDS a sniper of which Semin is. I'm not doubting Parise's talent, but i am hessitant in wanting another sub 6 foot player on this team.... Guest blueadams Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Yes, there IS still hockey to be played and YES we're all still on board but there has been a backslide in playoff performance, by which this entire franchise is graded, and some changes will need to be made. I'm not going to talk as much in specifics as far to much can happen on salary projections ie bidding wars, guys sign elsewhere for more/less etc. Homer, we love you, this was your last year. I'd be open to trading Franzen. We seem to spend a lot of time these last couple three playoff runs skating the perimeter while teams go north/south at the Wings. There is no bigger poster child to perimeter play an The Mule. Jimmeh thus far has also taken a step back this playoff run but only those in the dressing room know if it has been compounded by bad defense and bad backchecking. I'd sooner say the Wings would land Parise than Suter/Weber. The Devils did NOTHING once again to show Parise he's a valued guy they want to win NOW with whereas Nashville did add parts to show Suter/Weber they are serious about winning. Plus the Devils are going to undergo a little identity crisis this upcoming offseason. Rumors here in Devilland have them damned worried Parise will bolt. The Wings STILL need some top flight defense. I'm not saying you have to go find the next Weber, hell sign a couple guys like Volchenkov who block every shot and play nasty minutes. Sign a couple real attention to detail defensemen, something sadly Brad Stuart is no longer. He's been a serviceable pro and I hope he finds peace living in SoCal with his family. Extras we could consider losing: Eaves (sorry Patrick, it's unfortunate), Cleary who again gave his all but we need to get better up front, Abdelkader vexes me night in and night out. Some may have a home for him, I'd be open to trading him. On defense keep everyone but Stuart until you know what St. Nick wants to do. Then you can streamline your pairing by addition and subtraction. Is Kindl really the future? Is Smith ready for an 82+ game season? It's time like this I miss Scotty whispering in Kenny's ear. agree with everything you said...except...i think that quincey should be let go too. guy is a bottom pairing defenseman that earns almost 4 mil a season. mmorland 16 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 First off, lets be realistic. Cleary is hurt and will be improved next season. The team isn't going to trade him. 2nd, Fillpula isn't going to get traded, this organization over values his talent. 1 Ray1905 reacted to this

Parise has 194 goals in 502 games, Semin has 197 in 469. Parise isn't as good of a pure goal scorer by just looking at Shooting %, but he takes way less penalties, puts up equivalent power play numbers, scores short handed goals, and is just a more effective over all player. Semin has talent, I just don't see him being what the Wings need in that #1 scoring winger position especially with the concerns about attitude and consistency. JPT 26 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 I think we have to let Hudler walk. For his current contract and his offensive output I think he is a decent fit on the team. But he is going to want a raise and quite frankly he doesn't win any battles and is a defensive liability. He also doesn't really create any scoring chances for anyone else. Jeff6851 168 Report post Posted April 18, 2012 Franzen and Bertuzzi should not be playing with Datsyuk.Franzen shows very little effort now that he’s set for life. Bert, while heshows effort, is too slow for Datsyuk and for a second line player, Franzenbeing on the same line doesn’t help. Datsyuk is more of a playmaker than ascorer so he needs a guy that can score that can also make plays, enter ZachParise. Parise needs to be signed this year. Franzen can be traded forprospects or as a salary dump for all I care. Hudler should not play on the power play; he is slow andallows too many breakaways from playing on the point. His shot is never usedbut when it is he relies on deflections. I wouldn’t mind him leaving but if hestays he should not be played on the first line. Sadly, the Wings look like they’re destined for a fewhorrible years if they don’t change. We can’t stick with aged veterans whilethe division gets younger and stronger. One of the toughest things needs to bedone and we need to let Holmstrom and Lidstrom walk. They’ll stay a part of theorganization (Lids will probably become a scout in Sweden). This will clear upsalary to sign new guys (such as Parise) and make the team younger. Again, it’shard as these guys are some of the best (Lidstrom is the greatest d-man of alltime to me) but it’s their time. MakeZetterberg captain and give Parise his A. This team needs some size. We can’t keep losing puck battleson the boards or keep getting knocked away when entering the zone. We don’tneed goons but we need guys that won’t take s*** from the other team. Sign Ryan Suter to take Lidstrom’s place. He’s young andincredibly talented. There’s no way Nashville will be able to keep him withRinne’s salary doubling, re-signing Weber and keeping their team from fallingapart to free agency. New approaches to the game are needed. Hoping for adeflection or a little bounce to go in isn’t going to work anymore. Neither istrying to use the backboards, everyone is on to our trick. The lower lines needto crash the net. The top six need are the only guys that I trust to try towork a fancy goal and even then I’d like to see more hardwork than trying tobeat the goalie with fancy moves. Get rid of Kindl. There’s no need for him, he didn’t play inthe playoffs because he isn’t good. Smith is ready and needs to play now, hell, even Janik is better than Kindl. Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Fire Babcock. Also, I think we can forget about Suter now. Why would you leave a team that is better shape than the Wings? I would be worried that they manage to get Parise now...
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Step-by-step procedure: ...There's 22.6 mil in cap space available, with 15/23 roster spots accounted for. #1) Trade Cleary (for nothing, I don't care). Now there's 25.4 mil in cap space available, with 14/23 roster spots accounted for. #2) Put Nyquist, Tatar, Smith and Mursak (or Sheahan?) on the roster. Now there's 22.2 mil in cap space available, with 18/23 roster spots accounted for. #3) Resign Helm and Abdelkader to similar contracts. Now there's 20.5 mil in cap space available, with 20/23 roster spots accounted for. #4) Sign Parise and Suter to contracts at about 7.0 mil per season. Now there's 6.5 mil in cap space available with 22/23 roster spots accounted for. #5) The remaining 6.5 mil (and it might be less) is for Lidstrom, who may need to take a pay-cut. 2012/2013 Detroit Red Wings: Filppula(3.0)-Datsyuk(6.7)-*Parise(7.0) Franzen(4.0)-Zetterberg(6.1)-Bertuzzi(2.1) *Tatar(0.8)-*Helm(0.9)-*Nyquist(0.9) Miller(0.8)-*Abdelkader(0.8)-Eaves(1.2) Emmerton(0.5) *Mursak(0.6) *Lidstrom(6.2)-*Suter(7.0) Kronwall(4.8)-White(2.9) *Smith(0.9)-Ericsson(3.3) Kindl(0.9) Howard(2.3) MacDonald(0.6) ...That's a team that could win it all. 1) Cleary actually played better than most of the team on one leg, I wanted him gone before this series and honestly I don't see any clear cut improvement with someone else. I wouldn't be upset if he is moved, but it doesn't have to happen. 2) Smith and Nyquist are going to be on the roster. Tatar might be, I don't sheahan should be at all. Mursak should have been playing the entire year in more situations. Babcock really screwed up there. 3)Helm and Abs will be resigned. However, Abs might be part of the problem. 4) I wouldn't bet on the Wings being able to get either of these guys. Suter just watched his team steamroll the Wings. Why would he want to leave now? I am looking at their cap situation, and they could realistically keep him and sacrifice depth. In fact, he could go anywhere he wants with Parise as they are friends. The Wings will try, but I don't see this as something we should realistically bank on. I also don't think Parise would fix our problems because he would play into the Wings mentality. 5) Lidstrom might not even come back. I don't know what was going on with all the conservative use of him in this series and leading up. He might feel he is too beat up to keep going, or at least that he doesn't want to do it on discount. Bonus: We need to fire Babcock.
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 Side-note: Anyone else like the Klein dude on Nashville? He's been their best defensemen all series. I actually hate him. However, he has our number. This is a strategy I would like to adopt. Go after all the people that can beat us by themselves. Klein Scuderi, Pavelski, Sharp and others that just seem to always beat us. Tim Cheveldae's Ghost 9 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 There must be an infusion of youth next year on the team. In today's parity-filled league, you can't rely on old veterans to win when every other team is getting younger and faster. I think the Wings need to start changing their philosophy on how they handle youngsters, because perhaps the "Red Wing way" isn't the right way anymore. 1 Jesusberg reacted to this

Danielsm 244 Report post Posted April 19, 2012 If the Wings do a sign and dump with Stuart (as we know we want's to go west), could we possibly trade Stuart and Franzen for Bobby Ryan in Anaheim? Then say we are lucky enough to land Parise, our top 2 lines could look something like this: Parise - Datsyuk - Zetterberg Nyquist - Filpulla - Ryan That would be pretty damn dangerous.
