Draper_Rocks#33 4 Report post Posted October 27, 2013 Hey guys! My first time posting in a long time but i'm very excited to say i will finally be attending a game at the Joe. I'm coming all the way from Northern Newbrunswick Canada, and I'm just looking for some helpful tips and advice. Ill be at the Nov 15 game against the caps! What do you guys suggest for a pre-game spot for a meal or just to hang out? Is there a place to possibly wait for players to grab an autograph? I heard there are not a lot of bad seats but i was just wondering if anyone has been in around section 200 before? how are these seats? Any info will be greatly appreciated Thanks guys and girls! 1 Smite reacted to this
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) I would avoid parking at or near the Joe at all costs. The traffic/congestion gets hairy out there after the game ends. There are a number of restaurants that are within walking range, or provide free shuttle service to the Wings' games and back which are really convenient. Hockeytown cafe, Cheli's Chili I believe both have shuttles and provide a good environment to hang out and eat beforehand. There is also a bar with awesome pizza called Z's Villa a bit north of Downtown, on Woodward. They also provide a shuttle to the game and back, last time I checked. My typical gameday experience, however, is to go to Hardrock Cafe, because they have a nice parking garage which offers free parking if you eat there. They also have a shuttle to the game, but its within walking distance if you don't mind walking, so I typically walk to the Joe from there. I don't know much about where players are before/after games. I've never stuck around or looked to get an autograph. There are no bad seats at the Joe; I will agree with that. I've been in almost every section in the upper bowl and never had any issue seeing the game (although its definitely more fun being close to the ice!) Anyway, welcome to Detroit! I hope you have a blast! Edited October 28, 2013 by Echolalia
Draper_Rocks#33 4 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 (edited) Thanks for the info!! Are you able to go down to the ice during warm ups to snap a pic or two? Edited October 28, 2013 by Draper_Rocks#
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 Thanks for the info!! Are you able to go down to the ice during warm ups to snap a pic or two? I've never personally done it, but I think you can. You'll have to wait for someone else to chime in for an official confirmation. I don't show up early enough to see them skate besides the quick warm-ups right before the game. That's one of the great things about the organization and hope they continue with the new arena unlike the United Center where you have to have seats in the lower section to be able to go down to the glass. BTW, screw the Hawks.

BTW, screw the Hawks. The Cubs have a similar policy at Wrigley Field...All thanks to John McDonough who was the Cubs president for 20+ yrs and has been in the same position with the hockey team since 2007. Wingnut in WA 86 Report post Posted October 28, 2013 When my wife and I go our game day expierence is we usually go to Greek town casino they have a free garage and it's right next to the people mover. We go gamble at the casino for a bit then take the people mover to and from the game (50 cents eaxh way) works perfect and you don't have to worry about parking. Enjoy the game! 1 F.Michael reacted to this
colincolinable 2 Report post Posted October 29, 2013 I'm from Halifax and I went to a game April 25 last year, 5-2 win over NSH. It was my first game after being a fan for 20 years. The Hockeytown cafe was a good time but the food wasn't that good. There's plenty of cool Wings memorabilia in the restaurant. I parked in the parking garage connected to Cobo Hall. We got out of there in no time! We were back in Windsor within minutes of the game ending. We did go early, though. We got to Detroit and into the garage around 1 pm and secured out spot there right near the exit. Sat in section 214. Awesome seats. Got plenty of cool pictures before the game watching the warm up. I even got interviewed by FSD before the game about the playoff atmosphere. All in all it was the best night of my life so far. I regret not checking out Greektown though! Detroith99 3 Report post Posted October 29, 2013 Cobo joe's is with in walking distance....great place.....also after the game if you wait at the bottom of the stairs at the gorde Howe entrance by the guard rails you will at least get 1 or 2 autographs from the players as they drive home..and it's always cool to see what cars they drive
