maybe its just me but the way some teams are over celebrating wining a single game in these p/o's is really puzzling. With a best of seven series I can understand the joyous relief when winning the 4th series clinching game but jeez to explode onto the ice after going one game to nil up is a tad over the top. The only team i haven't seen do this so far is? Yes thats right, stay classy Wings the only time to celebrate like that is when hoisting stanley.

I think it has more to do with teams that haven't won a Cup recently or ever and teams that have a lot of young guys experiencing their first playoff win. I know the Wings have a ton of youth but the culture around this team is about respect and maturity. I think the only team who should have reacted the way they did was Columbus. That win meant a lot more to that organization than most teams.

It's all a matter of context:

Blues looked like the clear loser two times in a row and then with a minute to go turned it around two times, that has to sting a lot for the Hawks. But I agree some teams are really starting to celebrate like the series is over...

As for Columbus that's not a normal win for this team far from it, it's their first playoff win EVER against the second best team in the east for sure this means a lot not only to the players but for the franchise itself.

I've never had a problem with huge celebrations in the playoffs. This season, I feel like every team has a great reason to be jacked up, from the upstart Avs (man oh man was the Pepsi Center ever rocking last night) to the Cup-or-bust Blues taking on the defending champs in the very first friggin' round. Storylines galore. Teeth bared. Knives out. Knobs to 11. PLAYOFFS!

I love it. It's nice when people show emotion. Now does it go over the top sometimes? Yes. But this is a sport after all I like it when people show their emotion.

I think excessive celebrations are douchey. I don't when this deal, for scoring goals, started about touching the gloves of the entire team as you skate by the bench, but I don't even like that.

Why? I don't get why it bothers you? Now if they get in the other team's faces, then it's bad but I love the celebrations.

No, you are right. In the old days, even the glory years of 97, 98, 2001... I distinctly remember the Wings being super low key in playoff wins other than final games in later rounds. Colorado too.

Essentially, I don't like seeing people pat themselves on the back. I don't like people getting patted on the back by everyone else. Celebrate a goal with your teammates that are on the ice, and move on. There have been a few that had their own goal celebrations before going to their linemates, but I haven't seen anyone shooting their hockey stick like a shotgun, or anything like that, for a while, and I'm glad. Who would put up with a hockey player doing a little dance after he scores, a la the NFL? I despise touchdown dances. Excessive celebrating, even if it isn't right in somebody's face, is disrespectful.
