Controversial Hits around the League

Hey fellow Wingers!, how are the hoiidays treating all of you?

I thought it could be cool to have a thread where we could check highlight hits from around the League and break'em down

So let's start it off with Jake Muzzin's hit on Boyd Gordon in last night's Kings vs Coyotes game. It was a hard hit to Gordon's hea but really controversial since, whilst on the PK, Gordon is trying to get the puck out of the zone by batting it with his hand and lowering his body when turning to face Muzzin and got butt checked to the head in an incidental motion.

I dont know how to react to Muzzin-Gordon hit, id like to blame the player going low after the puck knowing theres another player coming after the puck too

and what happens is hard to stop, similar hits happen in the finnish league too where players are going after the puck head first and getting hurt and the player

doing the hitting usually gets suspended 1,2 or 3 games...

That's a really bad hit on Gordon. He was clearly trying to hurt him when he knew he was in a vulnerable position. Like Mick always says if players showed more respect for each other these injuries wouldn't happen, he had no play on the puck, no need to make that hit

1. Sees him going down on one knee (aka vulnerable position).

2. No intention of going after the puck.

3. Uses his ass to make a hit to the head. Not sure who would want to hit another players crotch with their ass. He knew Gordon was going down and decided to use his butt to hit his upper body. Just happens that he ended up hitting his head.

He should be suspended imo. And next time, when the player is facing forward, don't use your butt! Looks really weird if he ended up hitting his crotch instead of his head.. You gotta do it sideways like Kronwall does it xD

I don't like a match penalty for that at all. I think it's totally ridiculous to expect players to walk on egg shells like this. What are we going to start calling butts to the head now? Give me a break. Muzzins job is to not let Gordon get by him and to hold the puck in the zone. If Gordon doesn't fall there's a shoulder check and possibly head contact.

Hockey is a tough and fast game at least it used to be if players can't keep their head up they'll get hammered. Stevens was a master at that guess he'd be suspended for every hit right now.

Muzzin did his job, Gordon did fall and therefore a clean hit looks way worse than it was.
