Okay.  I would make that trade for us, not sure about St Louis.

The only sure player to be an NHL starter is probably Ausustine.  Bear won't be as good as Thomas and the three 1sts wouldn't bother me.

STL would want ASP instead of Wally/Lombardi//Mazur which would give us a future hole on RD.   You still do it?

Probably, but I don’t agree that it would take ASP as well. Teams that are “going for it” don’t usually trade roster players. In that case you’d just tell St. Louis to keep Broberg and pay a lesser price for Thomas. Again, we aren’t taking about superstars here. Thomas is Larkin-esque and Broberg is probably less valuable than 3 of our current defensemen. But if not those two then Kadri/Andersson or Pettersson/Hronek. Any combination of these guys, plus anyone from the Rangers or Winnipeg.

I just think the price wouldn’t be too great to pay considering what we’ve already got on the roster and what’s also in the cupboard. Let’s do it.

Then I would not do it. But that’s not really how NHL trades typically work. Teams don’t really move roster players off teams that are winning. The point is to add players to a team that’s already good, not subtract talent. Likewise, must teams do not trade top end prospects for non-superstars. Neither of Thomas or Faulk are Quinn Hughes level players and they won’t get Quinn Hughes level returns.

I'm thinking St Louis is gonna demand likely more than what Yzerman may be willing to send back...I'd say Thomas is of equal value to Larkin - they won't likely settle for 'potential', but rather have something more that's proven at the NHL level.

Maybe? I mean, I don't have insider info for anything. I'm a schmo like everyone else. But if St. Louis is trading Thomas, a 26 year old, then they're looking toward the future and rebuilding. ASP, Kasper, and Finnie fit that timeline, but it's likely Yzerman views those guys (along with Danielson, Cossa, and maybe MBN) as OUR future too. You'd have to imagine he'd give Doug Armstrong his pick of the rest of our prospect pool and draft picks for the next couple years. That's still a pretty enticing pot of gold when you consider we have pretty much all of our picks and guys like Augustine, Mazur, Lombardi, Wallinder, Buium, Buchelnikov, Bear, Genborg, Plante.

Edit: I'd also be down with Elias Pettersson/Vincent Trocheck and Carson Soucy if you wanna spend less than Thomas and Faulk would cost you.

EP40 has been rumored ever since Hughes was sent packing...We're probably 1 of a handful of teams that could absorb his full cap hit...Not sure what Vancouver would want in return - it likely won't be cheap, but for a guy who's capable of 70 plus pts it might be worth it considering it seems somewhat rare to find guys with that ability to hit UFA, or are available via trade...Wonder if any of our 'Swedish Mafia' on our current and past roster have any inside info, or opinion on the guy...Seems like he could use a change of scenery.

Pettersson’s contract is bad. If VAN wants someone to take all of it then the return won’t be as much. If they’re willing to retain some money then the return will be higher. Most teams don’t like to retain on long term contracts, so my best guess is that he’ll get traded for less.

I’d also be fine with Trocheck and Soucy, or Kadri and some other defenseman. Maybe Brayden Schneider?

The point is that it’s imperative (in my opinion) that the Wings land one of the top centers (Thomas, Trocheck, Kadri, Pettersson) and a defenseman that can handle 2nd pair minutes better than ASP can.

Thomas seems like an Yzerman type much more so than EP40. In a trade for him I'm sending one of Danielson or Kasper in the package.  We'd have 2-3 seasons of Larkin, Thomas, Copp and the one we keep.

Thomas would be a great addition - however I'm certain the Blues have no reason to move him considering he's young and has 5 more seasons under a nice contract...I'm thinking EP40 still has that potential to regain that 80 plus pts touch with a new zip code  and even though that contract is an albatross we have the cap space and hopefully by taking it all it'll reduce the cost to get him.
