#2652118 9 (NINE!) player trade involving Phanuef

Posted by Hack & Whack Rule! on 11 February 2016 - 05:23 PM

True, they spend top $ for mid level talent.

He may do what a lot of hockey players do, play in Toronto at the end of his career.

I'm not sure if they play in Toronto at the end of their careers or If playing in Toronto ended their careers. It's a toss up.

#2652043 The Petr Mrazek Appreciation Thread

OK so if you were at the opposite end and couldn't see how do you know he just "let one in"?

The final score was 3-1...hence, just one.

This thread is bang on, topic wise. Mrazek has been fantastic for this team and I'm glad he's wearing the winged wheel. Leave Big E alone. I've always called him Errorson, but that's for a different thread. Three cheers for Mrazek!

#2651415 Dennis Wideman Suspended 20 Games

Really?  I think that's a bit much

Really. I was hoping for 40. I think the fact that the linesman wasn't injures is a miracle of so sort. Players get get from less than that hit. That red had no expectation of being hit like that. I was hoping for 40 but would not have complained had he been kicked out of the league.

Still better than Nickelback.

Goalie vs goalie.

But the goalies have to play from the top of the circles, and elastic bumpers will be added in various spots five off the boards at the hash marks, blue lines, and red lines.
Get it done.

And they have to be moved by long metal rods attached to their backs and that extend out through the boards.

#2615879 Will Wings Revisit Signing Phaneuf?

Posted by Hack & Whack Rule! on 24 June 2015 - 08:50 AM

I'm actually glad to hear (or read) that other people feel this way too.  It was more exciting, the players were better, the teams were better.  Its kind of amazing to me that the Stanley Cup final ratings are so high these past few years considering, as a hockey obsessed maniac myself, I could care less who was in it or who won these past few years.  I wonder if its because the last 5 years of finals have been played in mostly big cities (Chicago, Philly, NY/NJ, Boston and LA).

I think a lot of people don't realize how different the game is. I really miss the way hockey was played back then.

As for the ratings, I'm pretty sure you've touched on a large part of it. It wouldn't surprise me to see that future SC finals will be played in predetermined arenas, a la the NFL. Everything seems to be geared toward ratings and growing the fan base.

But since this is a thread about Phaneuf...he sucks.

I'm going out to buy a lottery ticket, because, apparently, someone is answering my prayers.

#2615167 Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?

Posted by Hack & Whack Rule! on 18 June 2015 - 11:04 PM

59 minutes/per game or its not even close...
But I agree. The kids don't seem as skilled or as driven, or anywhere near as impactful as hank and pav were when they first got here.
Mostly pav, the first time I saw him play I thought he'd be the best player in the NHL.
I was on the glass in 02' and he skated up the wing pulled the puck between his legs and made both defenseman and the center look like they didn't belong in the league...
Maybe I'm just over romanticizing the past, but the only one I have any feeling of possible greatness..
But I could see with Nyquist if he suddenly becomes a center scoring 28+goals, which isn't out of the question.
Z did it, but he just has that drive to want to be the best that I haven't really seen yet from Nyquist.

Nykwist is about the only one of the kids I can see reaching superstardom with the Wings. He's got some skill and looks like he wants to break out once in a while. Every one else is just coasting.

#2615120 Jets re-sign Anthony Peluso for only 675.000 AAV (2 years)

Posted by Hack & Whack Rule! on 18 June 2015 - 03:06 PM

Awesome. Why don't you explain your definition of a 4th liner to Stan Bowman or Steve Yzerman? You know, the GMs of the two teams that played for the Stanley Cup. I'm sure they'd love to hear your opinion. That's if you can catch them when they're not busy making hemp bracelets and smoking grass. Peace man. Groovy peace.

Are you insinuating that Bowman and Yzerman do no currently know the definition of a fourth liner? There are no hard and fast rules regarding fourth liners, let alone third, second, and first liners. Some have a use for them, some do not. If every teams lines were the same, nobody would win and nobody would lose. Some teams could put to use a gritty fourth line, and some teams have an absolute need for one. Some teams don't need one at all. We have four lines getting pushed around by little fellas that got stuffed into lockers in high school, so I think we need one.

Peluso is definitely garbage, but he's getting paid garbage. Garbage also has it's place, though. A tough fourth liner that gets 6 or 7 minutes a night, with other guys in the same role, has only one objective...physical intimidation. That's something we don't have for 30 seconds. I'd be happy with this signing.

#2613849 NBC Sports chairman wants NHL ban playoff beards

Posted by Hack & Whack Rule! on 10 June 2015 - 09:17 AM

I'm surprised people are more upset about the infringement on tradition than the fact that it's not so subtly racist.

“The players won't like this, but I wish they all would stop growing beards in the postseason,” Lazarus said. “Let's get their faces out there. Let's talk about how young and attractive they are. What model citizens they are. (Hockey players) truly are one of a kind among professional athletes.

“I know it's a tradition and superstition, but I think (the beards do) hurt recognition. They have a great opportunity with more endorsements. Or simply more recognition with fans saying, 'That guy looks like the kid next door,' which many of these guys do. I think that would be a nice thing."

Translation:  These guys can be sold to Middle America because they're not black, scary, and/or a "thug".  They don't have tattoos or dreadlocks.  They look like you.  We can work with this.

I think you read waaaaaay too much into that. I don't think for one second that the kid next door can't be black. At one time where I once lived, the kid next door was actually black. I was cool with that. It was cool with him, too, as a matter of fact. I tend to think the people that see racism where most don't, are either too sensitive, or are just looking for controversy where it doesn't exist.

Neither.  And neither was spelled correctly.
Retire Red Kelly's number first.

I wasn't sure if I was the only one that caught that and I didn't want to be a peckerhead about it, so thank you.

Good players. They made huge contributions. Unfortunately, they aren't at the level required for number retirement. Maybe if this was Atlanta...
