#2399022 Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 07 May 2013 - 08:08 PM

Agreed.

Although I will say that with the speed of todays game - it might be hard for the opposition to judge if a hit on a teammate was in fact clean, or dirty...Many won't wait for the refs, or Shanny's form of justice, and will take matters into their own hands.

My beef is when  its done immediately after the hit takes place.  I have no problem if you ask the player that laid your guy out to "go" the next shift, but when someone jumps the player that just blasted a guy on their team (specifically when its not an illegal hit and no call is coming), it should be delay of game.  You never saw this type of stuff until after the 2005 lockout.  It's BS.

I miss the fact that play doesn't continue after someone lays another player out with huge, clean hit.  It pisses me off that players go after Kronwall (or any other player for that matter) after a huge hit.  To me, this should be called as delay of game if it immediately follows a legal hit.

#2398900 Norris Finalists announced: Letang, Subban, Suter

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 07 May 2013 - 03:06 PM

Exactly.  I hope a guy like Brent Seabrook wins the Norris one day, cause he's one of the best "overall defensemen" in the league and doesn't get the credit cause he doesn't rack up points on D, cause HE'S PLAYING DEFENSE!

Exactly what I'm talking about.  Seriously, what happened to this award?  Why has the criteria completely changed the past 2-3 seasons?

It's kind of like how the Heisman has become an offensive award in college football.  Ridiculous.....and this is coming from a guy that played Center his whole career and pinched way too often for my teams' own good. ;)

Jesus....didn't the Norris trophy used to have nominees that were actually incredible defensive players?

This list seems so ridiculous compared to what we saw just a few years ago.

#2391657 NHL.com Bracket Challenge

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 29 April 2013 - 09:57 AM

I typically run the game and I was just about to make a post asking if someone else could handle it this year.  I'm about to start up my own business on June 1st and I simply don't have the time my game requires this year.  Hopefully, next year I'll be back up and running.

#2369359 Time to blow it up and rebuild

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 15 March 2013 - 04:40 PM

I said to buy out two contracts - Samuelsson and Quincey - if we can't move them in a trade.

Face the facts.  20 year run is over.  Has been over.  It's time to start over.  Clear the roster.  Acquire new kids and picks in trade.  Sign some new kids in FA.  Call up our own kids.  Get a couple high 1st rd. picks.

Start over.

Do it right.

It'll be easier to do now than in two
years.

This is what you wrote:

Samuelsson.  Trade him if you can.  Buy him out if you can't.

Quincey.  Trade him if you can.  Buy him out if you can't.

Colaiacovo.  Trade him if you can.  Bu..

Bertuzzi.  Trade him if you can.  Bu..

Eaves.  Trade him if you can.  Bu..

Gustavsson.  Trade him if you can.  Bu..

To the avid English-speaking poster, this implies you want these players to be bought out if they can't be traded.  That number is 6, not 2.

The twenty year run is not over until they miss the playoffs.  Blowing up the roster is simply stupid when you can subtract pieces and continue to build with the solid players you have along with the youth that's making its way up.

Is this team what it once was, no...but that doesn't mean they can't be with the correct additions/subtractions.  Your OP comes off like something an impulsive child would say.

#2368076 Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 12 March 2013 - 02:00 PM

well with cleary saying buh bye (hopefully after his contract is up this year) that is 2.8 million, plus whites contract is up, unfortunately we still have sammy, bert, quincey, and colo locked up all for at least another year.

Bert's the only one in there I don't mind.  The other three are nothing more than serviceable at the right price.  Bert, when healthy, is solid based on his contract.  Cleary, he can move on and never return as far as I'm concerned.

That being said, Brunner is likely going to command a raise.  Probably not something ridiculous given the sample size is so small, but a raise nonetheless.

#2361043 Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 25 February 2013 - 09:58 AM

This.

Not all, but unfortunately many Chicago sports fans can be complete a$$holes...If ya don't believe me - just show up in your Red Wings jersey at the United Center the next time the 2 rivals meet.

I do it every year....and its as pleasant as you say it is.  My wife and I were walking to our seats a couple years ago before the game started and as we moved into our row, we were greeted with "f*** You, f*** You, f*** You."

Drives me nuts that I'll never be able to take my daughter there simply because I won't expose her to an environment like that.

Should I pull the 4-5 identical threads regarding this topic we've had over the course of the past 5 years?  What a waste indeed.

Talk about nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.

#2340536 TooToo - the lovable little Tasmanian Devil

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 16 January 2013 - 09:54 AM

I love the toughness he brings to this team, I love the forecheck he brings to this team and I love his tenacity.

What people like myself don't like, is the d*uche-baggery cheapshots he brings.  There's a big difference between playing with the above-mentioned traits and the antics Tootoo gets himself into.....and before anyone makes the Maltby comparisons, I'll stop you before you start.  There's a big difference between the s*** Maltby used to pull versus what Tootoo has over the course of his career.

We'll see how it goes, but if he keeps up the antics, I don't see myself cheering for him much...or defending him for that matter. If he keeps it clean, he'll win me over.

#2338272 Canadian hockey fans - they mad!

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 07 January 2013 - 04:26 PM

What I don't get is this sense of entitlement any fan of any team has. It's what made beating Canada all that much better. If the CFL starting developing players in the NFL and they had a tournament in which they beat the USA, I wouldn't go all ape-sh*t like some here have.

Just because you may have created a sport doesn't mean you own it or that you're not allowed to be beaten at it. To those b*tching....Grow Up and stop making the rest of your fans look bad.

#2338124 New CBA

Posted by NeverForgetMac25 on 07 January 2013 - 09:36 AM

How long does the average NHL career last? Most players aren't superstars making 7 figure salaries for 15 years or more. The vast majority play only a few years. Not to mention, the players put themselves at risk every time they step on the ice. Look at Patrick Eaves, will he ever be "normal" again and live without pain? Keith Primeau probably will never live without the effects of his repeated concussions. Same for the Lindros brothers. Most players will likely have some sort of lasting physical or mental ailment as a result of playing in the NHL. What risk do the owners put themselves at? Are their careers over at 25?

The players know the risks full well and as a result, that's on them.  No one's holding a gun to their heads...they have every single right to choose whichever occupation they'd like.  Besides, minimum salary in the NHL is $525,000.  If you last even 5 years, there's no excuse for you to not be able to live off that the rest of your life if you're willing to live a more modest lifestyle (I.E. $50-$75K per year based on the Economic Rule of 7).  How many people have the opportunity to say that when they're roughly 27 years old?

They're not getting sympathy from me.  They choose their path and its up to them to make their money last.  I know I would if I had NHL Grinder level talent.

I'm seriously surprised it got done but uber-excited.  I don't know what I would've done once the Football season ended.

The owners were exploiting the players in 92

Exploiting?!?!  Please.  That's a stretch.

It's not as if every single hockey player in the NHL wasn't making far more than the average Joe.  I have a very difficult time feeling much sympathy for either the players or the owners.
