Detroit Pistons (and NBA) Playoff Thread

*** yeah Detroit and way to go 'Sheed to keep your emotions to a minimum with 5 fouls. Way to step it up in the 4th quarter as well, 'Sheed!! That was great to see him step it up, we needed it. Rip also was playing great ball the entire game. Although the refs weren't great, I'm just glad the Pistons came out on top.

Well, all I have to say was it was a very intense game..glad the Pistons won, and see ya back in San Antonio for game 7!! Hopefully Rip, Sheed, etc can all step it up again to try and win it in San Antonio. It should be interesting, because the last time the finals went to a game 7 was back in '94. The Pistons could make some history if they win game 7!!!

Way to go Detroit!

Watch, GWG will come in this thread and make a bundle of excuses. "Oh, if Tim Duncan could actually make a free throw, the Spurs would be champions now and there would be no game 7" or some stupid s**t like that. No time for excuses! Just face the fact that the Pistons beat the Spurs and forced a game 7.

It now comes down to who wants it more, IMO.

LET'S GO DETROIT!!!!

Sheed won us the game with that 3 putting us up by 4 with a few minutes left. It was close until right near the end, but this time Detroit came out stronger.

I'm really hating how everyone keeps saying, "No team has ever won 2 straight away games, 6 and 7 to win the title". It doesn't matter. In Thursday's game, all of the past wins and whatnot won't mean a thing. It's that one game which happens to be in San Antonio, and I know that Detroit can pull it out.

lol - same could be said for us "if Billups had made just one of those layups in Game 5 Pistons would be champions now". Just seems to be the way the series is going....

Seriously though, wtf is up with Duncan on the line? blink.gif

Well, if anyone's got a shot at a road win in Game 7, it's sure this team. I think it's 50-50 who wins it all at this point. We might lose, but I don't see us completely falling apart in this one....

Should be a good game...se ya Thursday - Go Pistons!

A few things I need to get off my chest

1) Yeeeeaaah!! clap.gif (no dancing bananas yet, but you can damn well bet they'll be out in FORCE on Thursday if Detroit wins!)

2) The Spurs attempted 28 threes today and made only 8.... keep it up!

3) Horry's Oscar-winning (for best short film) MJ impersonation notwithstanding Detroit has outplayed SA in EACH of the last 4 games, an encouraging sign.

4) So much for SA's superior bench; tonight BOTH teams went a whole 2 players deep!

5) History is not on Detroit's side in Game 7 (it rarely is for the underdogs in the NBA), but maybe when Rip says "They don't know that's what we do! They don't know that's what we do!" he's also referring to Detroit's propensity to REWRITE history. One can only hope so.

Can't wait for game 7!!!!!

bottom line? the pistons do things they're not supposed to do, they're not supposed to win 2 games in a row to beat miami, they're not supposed to win game 6 in san antonio, they're not supposed to beat the lakers last year. but guess what we did.

I wouldnt talk crap on Horry bro. He's one clutch MF'r. I do believe he is playing with a shoulder that needs surgically repaired.

I have nothing but respect for the Pistons. They clearly want it more than San Antonio does. They outhustled them for every loose ball and Tay and Ben were all over the offensive glass. To me those offensive boards coupled with forced turnovers (mainly Ginobili) were the downfall of the Spurs.

I'm still baffled at how Tim Duncan goes 15-15 from the line v the Suns and can't figure out that he needs to bend his knees so his free throws aren't line drives. (See Shaq for reference Timmy)

I'll get raked against the coals for this but.....I don't see San Antonio beating Detroit in Game 7 after the last 4. Too much heart from Detroit, not enough effort on the San Antonio side.

I hope you all still have your finger nails intact. If you do you won't after Game 7.

Someone find me that crow graphic and a salt shaker.

Gowingsgo.....How about your dagger airing out a few of those threes...

What a game, What a series...Go Pistons.

(Sheed made a game 7 win garantee ohmy.gif )

Did he really? I was watching all the post-gave interviews and such on FSN and I didn't hear him make a guarantee. If he did, I'm a bit nervous that he'd do that when the series could go either way, but also he's what, 3-3 on when he makes a guarantee? So, that's a good thing to know.

Well, I guess we'll have to wait 'til Thursday to see who wants it more.

LET'S GO PISTONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's been an amazing series. I think Chauncey Billups is the series MVP, regardless of which team wins.

Regarding Duncan's free throws, good point about the knees. If you watch Duncan, when he really takes his time at the line, he shoots it well. When he hurries, he doesn't. And the difference seems to be he goes through some kind of mental checklist, including using his knees, because when he doesn't, the free throws almost always come up short.

In my book, this game seven comes down to San Antonio's home court advantage and Detroit's mental and physical toughness advantage. It figures to be a monster game.

I was astounded to hear that the Spurs have never played a game seven under Popovich. Considering how many playoff series they've been involved in over all those years, I have trouble believing that.

Hmm, weird. I must've missed that. I guess both teams are sort of making a guarantee because when Duncan was getting interviewd, it seemed to me as if he was saying they were going to win by this statement:

"Well, it seems like we weren't able to get it done tonight, guess we'll have to go back Thursday and do a little cleaning up."

Take what you want from it, but it sounds to me as if he's guaranteeing a win as well. hehe.gif

Home court advantage does not matter right now, not with the Pistons. They just can't let the refs get to them like they did yesterday ALTHOUGH they had the right to, it was reaalllllll bad. They can block the fans out I believe just the refs they have to worry about. Pistons are gonna win tomorrow, they've come to far to lose game 7 now. The refs are gonna be stacked against our 'Stones but they are gonna overcome it and maybe win by double digits (I'm not betting on it though, just going on gut feeling). Chauncey is gonna remind the whole world why he was MVP of last years playoffs and why he should be the MVP this year for the second time in a row since Mr. Duncan himself. Tayshaun is going to remind us why he was the regular season MVP. Rip is gonna remind us why he has the best jumper in the game and why he is the hardest working man in the NBA, next stop....Rip city. Sheed is gonna remind us that he can not only post up but drain those threes all day and why he is the best and defending Duncan. Ben is gonna remind us why he is the DPOY and lastly Detroit is going to remind everyone why they are the best TEAM in the whole world, the team that has the most heart and testicular fortitude, and show that no matter how bad the adversity gets they respond and have an answer.

And when the Pistons win tomorrow JohnO is not allowed to post and say anything about the Pistons ever again on this board....sorry brother.....but your s**t is inexcusable....

*EDIT* It is very important to note that Sheed got 16 points and at least 2 in every other stat in twenty-four (24) minutes of play. He is going to be a BEAST tomorrow.

If I were the Spurs, I'd be a bit concerned because the Pistons have been in positions where they were down then came back and won the series. They also have been known for doing the unexpected. For instance, noone thought they could beat the Heat, let alone come back and beat them two straight against them - one being a game 7 IN Miami. Then last year noone expect the Pistons to defeat the Lakers and guess what? They did.

The Pistons are going to come out all fired up and ready to go. The Spurs better be ready as well. I believe that we will win the series, however it is going to be a very, very close game. Sheed is going to come out and play strong the *entire* game.

Can't wait for tomorrow's game!! Should be a dandy!

LET'S GO PISTONS!!

Oh, and one more thing...Dallas27, just curious why you say after the Pistons win tomorrow why wouldn't JOhnO be able to post about the Pistons anymore? Is it because he has a different opinion than most of us? That he doesn't think the Pistons can pull it off? If you read his posts, he says he'd love to see the Pistons win it, but his gut feeling is that Detroit can't take two in a row in SA. Besides, that's the way he is --he always says we're doomed(not just the Pistons on Wings gamedays too)...so just let it be. I'm sure if the Pistons do pull it out, he'll be just as glad..

Phil Jackson picked the Spurs to win on PTI, said they have better "character" players.

I don't believe a word this guy has to say, it was evident last year when Larry Brown decided to coach the Pistons and Phil put his foot in his mouth by saying Larry was basically an idiot for coaching a team full of "thugs" that couldn't get it together to win anything.

Time for Phil to eat some more crow.

probably because he has no faith in the team and already awarded the spurs the championship before the series was even played.

Interesting, the Sportsnation poll has 70% of the people counting on the Pistons to win...

Everyone sees the same thing you guys were seeing from Detroit, more heart and desire.

San Antonio is a shell of the team that dominated the first 2 games. I don't see how they can refind themselves after getting smacked around the past 5 games.

Again, find me that crow image and get me a salt shaker for it.

May the better team tonight win.....and push us one step closer to what really matters.

Well, GWG, since it seems as if you are asking for a nice plate of crow before the game is on, I found one for you. Not sure if it's the one you are looking for, but it's a good size one!
